The Gift

As Benjamin Franklin walked from Independence Hall after the Constitutional Convention in 1787, an onlooker shouted out, “Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?” Franklin responded ominously, “A republic, if we can keep it.” His concerns 230 years ago have now surfaced, but not completely as he expected. Franklin was concerned that this “experiment” in self-government would gradually evolve to a bloated and all-powerful federal government, wresting powers from the states until the states became irrelevant.

This fear by and large is well on its way to becoming fact; however, something else has transpired over the years, something that Ben never anticipated; we would turn our backs  on religion. Our forefathers based our constitution on Judeo-Christian values that have lasted all these years. The Declaration of Independence explains that our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness come from our creator. So why are people burning churches, Bibles and the American flag?

The quest to diminish our culture and way of life started a long time ago. It has evolved from every socialist and Marxist literature ever written. The book “Rules For Radicals” written by Saul Alinsky represents the “bible” for those persuaded in the Marxist ideology. Somehow, celebrity and social figures have shown themselves to be advent followers of Alinsky.

Our country has been moving towards a more secular lifestyle for many years. Families rarely eat dinner together, let alone go to church. Prayer has been removed from the public schools. The eradication of living beings via abortion has become a common place occurrence. Our children are handed an electrical device and told to have fun, yet the games they play are violent and perverse. As we move away from worship, we also move away from what our Founding Fathers gave their lives and fortune for, the liberty and freedom of practicing your preferred religion or what you feel is a comfortable way of life.

This is a sinister attempt of taking our rights. The left-wing, socialist governmental faction see this as an opportunity to impose their control of our way of life. They now impose restrictions on our ability to gather in fellowship. I watch hundreds maybe thousands of people in some sort of rage against their local government, the very liberal governments that appease their behavior yet the local government restricts our ability to assemble to worship. They allow the taxpaying citizens of their city to fall prey to the anarchist who destroy their city as this is accepted behavior, while I cannot meet with a couple dozen of my fellow worshippers to pray for everyone’s safety and return to our savior, Jesus Christ.

This great nation was a gift from God. We’ve tried to help countries of the world to life themselves up and enhance the world. We’ve been blessed with a gift. This great country stands as a beacon of hope to the world and we cannot allow it to be thrown onto the trash heap of history.
