Kosciusko COVID Count Increases By 17 Over 3 Days

Between noon Wednesday and noon Friday, the Kosciusko County Health Department received 17 new COVID-19 positive cases.

This gives Kosciusko County a total of 841 positive cases and 12 deaths, according to a news briefing Friday from the KCHD.

Of the 841 cases, 12 are the deaths, 187 are active cases, nine are hospitalized active cases and 633 are recovered cases.

The KCHD has put together a booklet to provide COVID-19 related guidance and information for schools, parents, students and staff. The most up-to-date version can be found online at www.canva.com/design/DAEDYxW3oKw/wfQKOxvxSgSY7rvc3GDyiQ/view?website#2:kosciusko-county-covid-19-response-plan.

The health department would appreciate any feedback or suggestions as it nears the beginning of the school year.

Beginning next week, COVID-19 situation reports will be sent out on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, the brief from the KCHD states.

While the free state drive-thru testing at Central Park ends today, to help meet the demand for testing in Kosciusko County and the surrounding area, Parkview Warsaw will serve as an additional COVID-19 testing site beginning Aug. 17, with funding through the CARES Act.

To streamline the testing process while implementing safety precautions, Parkview Warsaw is requesting patients pre-register for a testing appointment by calling 574-372-0030. Once patients arrive at the facility for their appointment, they will be asked to call the same number from their vehicles. Staff will arrange to meet them at their car or at a designated entrance to be escorted back to a private room for testing, according to a news release Friday from Parkview.

“Parkview Warsaw is pleased to serve as a resource for COVID-19 testing, and we are taking steps to provide a convenient, expedited process that prioritizes the safety of our patients as well as our staff,” said Jeffrey Rockett, vice president, outpatient services, Parkview Warsaw. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with local public health officials to ensure the healthcare needs of our community are being met.”

To reserve an appointment for COVID-19 testing beginning Aug. 17, call 574-372-0030. Parkview Warsaw is located at 1355 Mariners Drive, Warsaw.

CARES Act testing for COVID-19 also is available at the three MedStat locations in Kosciusko County: Nappanee, Warsaw and Syracuse.

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) on Friday announced that 1,253 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 72,254 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s dashboard.

A total of 2,821 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 10 over the previous day. Another 202 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

As of Friday, nearly 33% of ICU beds and nearly 81% of ventilators are available across the state, according to the ISDH news release Friday.

To date, 817,104 tests for unique individuals have been reported to ISDH, up from 804,345 on Thursday.
