MENTONE – Ronald A. Barker, 73, of Mentone, passed at 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester.

Ron was born on Feb. 18, 1947, in Warsaw, to the late Ralph C. and Donna Jean Fuller Barker. He was married on Aug. 4, 1966, in Sacred Heart Church in Warsaw, to Sue Ann Lucas; she survives.

He was a 1965 graduate of Warsaw High School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he was a radioman, retiring after 22 years on Sept. 1, 1988, with the rank of E7 chief petty officer. He worked for ITT Aerospace Communications for 20 years, retiring in January of 2009 as a Comsec communications managing supervisor.

He was currently serving as vice president of the Bell Aircraft Museum. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mentone for 31 years serving as a trustee. He was a leader of CIA Thursday Night Bible Study with the young adults, as well as being the director of Awana Club. He had also been an EMT in Mentone. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling with his family in his camper all around the country.

Survivors include wife, Sue Barker, Mentone; daughter, Missy and husband Bill Kidd; grandsons, Tyler and wife Harley Kidd, Mason Kidd and Gaige Kidd; great-grandsons, Gabe, Nate and Zech; and sister, Diane Wenzel, Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph C. and Donna Jean Barker; and bothers, Dennis Barker and Stephen Barker.

Memorial visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the First Baptist Church, 206 S. Oak St., Mentone. A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Wilhite officiating. Military honors will follow the service performed by the Warsaw American Legion Post #49.

A final remembrance place will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.

ATWOOD – The congregation at Atwood Otterbein Church will celebrate the 98th anniversary of the building of their church at 306 E. Main St., Atwood, on Sunday at their 9:30 a.m. service. The congregation celebrates its Heritage Day each May.
