Eugene ‘Gene’ Adams

Gene was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to the late Kelly and Ethel Prater Adams. On Dec. 9, 1962, he married the love of his life, Charlotte Loraine Baird Adams. She survives along with their two children: Jeanna (Adams) Kenney and Sean (Lisa) Adams; and his favorite granddaughter, Jess Kellie Adams. He was a proud uncle of several nieces and nephews and their extended families.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kelly Ward Adams; sisters, Pauline Crace Hendricks and Geralene "Geri" Musgrave.
In 1959, Gene graduated from Portsmouth West High School. After high school, he moved to the Findlay area and worked for over 41 years at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, where he proudly became known as "Hillbilly." One year into retirement, Gene knew he needed something to do. That is when he started valeting cars at the Blanchard Valley Hospital for the next seven years.
Gene loved his family, immediate and extended. He was a devoted father and never missed his children's sporting events. He coached his daughter's softball team and his son's baseball team. If you wanted to plan an event with Gene, you better schedule around The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.
Gene was very competitive himself, as an avid golfer and bowler. If you knew Gene, you knew how much he loved GOOD country music. He was thrilled when his granddaughter Jess took on the challenge to become a country music singer. He would help her pick out songs, come up with song ideas to write about and also helped build her live show. He never missed a show, no matter how far away it was. He was the best husband, dad and grandpa. He will be missed but in our hearts everywhere we go. Ta-Ta for now.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family asks all in attendance to wear a mask and practice social distancing. We are also following the state of Ohio requirements on those who can enter Ohio without quarantining and those who cannot. We know this will impact some family and we understand some may not be able to attend. The service will be livestreamed for those that can't or aren't able to come.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay with Senior Pastor Steve Osborn officiating and interment will follow at Van Horn Cemetery where the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will present Full Military Rites.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Coldren-Crates Funeral Home Findlay, Ohio.
