Lewis Collier, elder and session member of the church, said the church will be giving out 200 large pepperoni-and-cheese pizzas starting at 4 p.m. and going until they are sold out.
The directors of the church wanted to do a community outreach and thought giving away free pizzas would be a good way to do that, Collier said. He also said the Family Pizza Night has been the church’s community outreach for the past two months of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s stay-at-home order. It is supposed to be a thank-you for people’s patience.
The church will be providing the pizzas through a drive-through process, where volunteers will be at the church to guide traffic and hand people the pizzas through an open window, Collier said. It is hoped to serve four cars a minute to hand the pizzas out as fast as possible.
Collier also stated the best route would be coming off Ind. 13 and go east on Church Street.
There is no advance notice needed, he said, adding there is a list of eight shut-ins they’re going to deliver pizzas to.
On each pizza box, a letter will be attached stating, “A delicious gift for our friends and neighbors to ‘thank you’ for doing what you can to keep our community safe and healthy. Please come and visit us on Sunday 10 to 11 a.m. worship service. In Christ's love, PPC.”
A special thank is also on the letter to Pizza Hut, Warsaw and Pizza Stop & Sub, Pierceton, who provided the pizzas.
