Kosciusko County Farmers and Artisans Market’s opening day will be held rain or shine in downtown Warsaw Saturday.

The Farmers Market will be on Center Street between Buffalo and Lake streets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Mark Vanlaningham, president of Kosciusko County Farmers and Artisans Market.

According to visitkosciuskocounty.org, the Farmers Market has been around since 1976. The outdoor market runs from May to October.

Vanlaningham stated he doesn’t have a count of how many vendors there will be Saturday, but there will be vendors selling fresh produce, meat, baked goods and plants.

Other than social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vanlaningham said Saturday’s Farmer Market is not going to be really any different. However, he did say there won’t be any vendors selling arts and crafts this week.

“We’ve just had to scale back on some of the artists and stuff,” he said.

Vanlaningham said the Farmers Market was not cancelled because farmers markets are part of the food chain.

He also noted one of the benefits of the farmers market is it’s the safest part of the food chain due to the limited number of people who handle the food.

Vanlaningham also said being outside is also safe because of the open-air venue, instead of dealing with an enclosed building and its ventilation system.
