By Staff Report-

The Kosciusko County National Day of Prayer service will be broadcast on WIOE radio (101.1 FM, 104.3 FM and 1450 AM) at 7 p.m. May 7.

People can also listen by clicking the “LISTEN LIVE” button on wioe.com/site or watch the prerecorded service on the Kosciusko County IN National Day of Prayer YouTube channel, the www.facebook.com/KosciukoNDP page or at www.wioe.com/fumc.shtml.

The keynote speaker will be Tiberius Rata, B.S., M.Div., Ph.D. A native of Romania, Rata is the chair of the Biblical Studies Department and professor of Old Testament Studies at Grace College and Evangelical Seminary. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Institute for Biblical Research and has presented papers at the national conventions of the Evangelical Theological Society.

Rata’s desire is to instill in students a love for God and His inerrant word, remembering the words of Ezra 7:10, “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.”

He is married to Carmen and they have two sons.

The 2020 National Day of Prayer theme is “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth.” It comes from Habakkuk 2:14, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

In 1952, the National Day of Prayer was created by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The law was amended by both the House and Senate in May 1988 and signed by President Ronald Reagan designating annually the first Thursday of May as a day of prayer. Since the original signing in 1952, every president has issued a National Day of Prayer proclamation.

This year, the National Day of Prayer meetings cannot be held at the Winona Heritage Center because of the COVID-19 meetings ban. The Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association and the National Day of Prayer committee will hold it on the radio and on the internet.

Representatives from the community will be leading prayers for seven focus areas. They include: military - Greg Rauen, director of World Compassion Network; education - Ethel Anderson,    retired math professor; families - Sam Peña, director of Hispanic ministries at Warsaw Community Church; government - Mark Sponseller, Iglesia Valle Del Rey & Indiana Prayer Network; ministry and missions - Bill Fawley, founder of All Things New Women’s Rehabilitation Ministry; media - Terry White, journalism professor at Grace College; business - Jeri Purdy, director of Marketplace Development Global Leadership Network.

The New Life and World Outreach Church praise band will provide the music.

Government, ministry and missions, military, business, media, education and family will be prayed for during the national day of prayer. See www.facebook.com/KosciuskoNDP for more details.
