Cancellations due to COVID-19 have been aplenty, even affecting some events leading into the summer months. But as of right now, the Kosciusko County 4-H Fair isn’t one of them.

The fair, slated for July 12-18, is still on, according to Jeanette Wood, general manager of the fair.

“As of right now, we are scheduling as it’s going on as normal,” Wood said, adding that the fair will follow all state and federal guidelines and will make changes to plans if necessary.

The fairgrounds, 1400 E. Smith St., Warsaw, has been closed to the public since Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb suspended gatherings of more than 50 people in March.

In a statement on the fair’s website, fair board members write that they are diligently working to reschedule affected events to a date later in the year.

In the meantime, Purdue Extension mandated that all 4-H related workshops, events and meetings that have 50 or more people will meet through alternative methods such as video or will postpone the meetings altogether, according to the fair’s statement.

“We look forward to the 2020 Kosciusko County Fair and continuing to promote agriculture and youth development and provide quality entertainment for Kosciusko County,” the statement reads.

The boat ramp at the fairgrounds is open for individuals with active passes, and the date for pick-up for people who have boats and campers stored at the fairgrounds was pushed back. Wood said people are still putting their boats in, but people aren’t in a rush to pick up their storage items.

The fair is still able to conduct business over the phone and by email, and, according to the website, a refund policy is being put in place for affected events.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety and health of our guests, staff and community are our top priority,” the statement reads. “Any decisions made by the Kosciusko County Community Fair Inc. will be guided by science and reason.”

In mid-March, Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department decided to cancel all activities and programs for eight weeks, including cancelling the Rockin’ for Riley Rock Concert, Blues & BBQ Festival and Country Concert for St. Jude concerts. Parks and Recreation Director Sheila Wieringa said announcements for the 2020 Central Park Concert Series concerts held in the Central Park Plaza will be made closer to each date.
