Despite the lack of a senior season, Warsaw baseball players Noah Burgh and Jacob Hutcherson announced Friday they will continue their baseball and academic careers are Purdue North-west and Trinity Christian College, respectively.

In his junior season, Burgh was among team leaders in innings pitched (52.2), wins (5), strikeouts (56) and earned run average (2.53). The righthander also posted a 1.29 WHIP (walks and hits divided by innings pitched).

With a bat in his hands, Burgh had seven doubles and a home run among his 33 hits during his junior season, good for a .347 average, a .431 slugging percentage and an .884 on-base plus slugging percentage. He led the Tigers with 26 runs scored, highlighted by a four-hit, three runs scored performance against Wawasee in Syracuse.

Burgh said his college choice was based primarily on distance from Warsaw. PNW and its baseball stadium is in Hammond, with a satellite campus in Westville.

“I was between Purdue Northwest and Marietta (Ohio) College,” Burgh said on a Zoom session Friday afternoon. “Five hours was just way too far, I couldn’t do that so I knew Purdue Northwest was the school.”

Burgh is not yet decided on a major.

Hutcherson was also a major contributor to the Warsaw offense, with a .41 average, a trio of doubles and a homer. He collected 28 base hits overall and scored 10 times.

On the mound, Hutcherson made seven appearances, pitching 13 innings and not allowing an earned run in six of those appearances. His 1.92 ERA and 0.92 WHIP led the Tigers.

Hutcherson is considering a major in exercise science with an eye toward becoming an occupational therapist at TCC, located in Palos Heights, Ill., southwest of downtown Chicago.

“My dad (Scott) was actually the one who told me about them,” Hutcherson said. “I actually e-mailed them first and they e-mailed me back. They asked to come up for a practice. After that we just stayed in touch. They sent me that they were interested in me.”

All high school spring sports in Indiana were cancelled earlier this month by the IHSAA due to the pandemic.

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains. With so much having been written in recent weeks about their performance on the field, and rightfully so, I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit and ask them some questions about themselves. Each of the four players were asked the same eight questions. Below are each of their answers.
