NORTH MANCHESTER – Athletic director Eric Screeton announced Wednesday  former Squire assistant Alyx Brandewie is the new head football coach at Manchester High School.

Brandewie is originally from Minster, Ohio, and was teaching and coaching football and baseball there the last two years. Before that he was an assistant coach and eventually the defensive coordinator under former coach Greg Miller from 2016-18.

“He has experience with high quality small school football and experience coaching both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. In 2019, he returned to his hometown to assist with the Minster (OH) program capturing their first conference championship in many years with a record of 9-2 ,” said Screeton in a statement. “The hiring committee spent several weeks narrowing down the search and had to deal with a few audibles and adjustments ourselves with the interview process. The committee is excited that Coach Brandewie will be leading this new chapter of Squires football.

"Coach Brandewie is first and foremost a dynamic personality and young people magnet. There is already a strong, positive relationship with the upperclassmen on the team that will spread throughout the program. In the last 20 years of athletic programs I have witnessed, Alyx is one of the best teachers you can be around, whether that is in the classroom or out on the field. He is caring, organized, motivating, enthusiastic, and has a vision of togetherness that directly relates to our Squires Athletics culture. We are thrilled to have Coach Brandewie come back to Squire football, as he takes the next step in his coaching career."

Brandewie will also teach social studies, according to his updated LinkedIn page.
