A police crash report sheds more light on an early Saturday morning collision on U.S. 30 that sent two people to the hospital.

Warsaw police responded to a two-vehicle collision at 5:50 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 30 and East Old 30.

Police determined that a white 2000 Toyota Camry, driven by Anthony R. Conforti, 26, of Old Forge, Pa., was traveling west on U.S. 30 and approached a red light at the intersection. However, Conforti told police he was tired and nodding off and did not notice the red light until it was too late to stop or avoid a collision, according to the report.

The Camry rear-ended a 2019 black Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Joseph D. Potts, 40, of Columbia City. Potts told police he was nearing to a stop at the light when he noticed the car behind him was approaching at a high rate of speed, so Potts tried to scoot over into the right-hand lane of the highway.

The Camry rear-ended the right driver’s side corner of the Dodge, causing the Camry to spit out through the intersection, strike a sign while crossing the median, and coming to a stop in the middle of the eastbound lanes of U.S. 30.

Conforti was unhurt, but his passenger, Jocelyn Donsky, 18, of Nanticoke, Pa., was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for complaint of neck and wrist pain.

Potts also was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for complaint of back pain.

Both vehicles were towed, and estimated damage is between $10,000 and $25,000.
