By -
Born Mildred Catherine Whetstone, on Jan. 28, 1932, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of Dewey and Ethel Mildred Fisher Whetstone. She was united in marriage to Alan Grindle on Sept. 16, 1950, sharing nearly 60 years together before his passing on May 8, 2009.
Mildred was spunky and fun-loving. She was a longtime member of Harrison Center Church and lived Christ’s word as best she could, always willing to help those in need. She was a loving neighbor, a giving friend and set an example for her children and grandchildren whom she loved deeply. Mildred was a huge fan of Chicago Cubs baseball and Purdue University basketball. She is also remembered for her popcorn balls at Halloween and her love of garage sales.
Those who survive include her daughter, Diane (Bill) Burr, of Warsaw; and their children, Michael (Stacey) Lucas, of Rineyville, Ky.; Matthew Lucas, of Warsaw; and Cassandra (Jason) Goble, of Rockport, Texas; son, Kim (Linda) Grindle, of Warsaw; and their children: Rob Grindle, of Warsaw; and Lisa (Blaine) Goon, of Warsaw; and six great-grandchildren: Chase, Aaron, Jacob, Makia, Emily and Karter.
In addition to her husband, Alan, those who preceded her in passing include a brother, Lowel Whetstone; sisters, Edna Cowen and Doris Linton; and infant sister, Mary Lou Whetstone.
Due to the restrictions placed on our community by the Covid-19 virus, Mildred’s life will be celebrated privately on Tuesday. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Mark Burritt officiating. A memorial service is being planned for friends and extended family at a later date. Titus Funeral Home is assisting with Mildred’s Life Celebration®.
