Open Letter To Community

Dear Warsaw Community,
The 2019-2020 school year will go down as one of the most unique in our 175 years of public education in the greater Warsaw community. While our school buildings are physically closed, Warsaw Community Schools (WCS) is open in new ways to continue active learning. In these challenging times, our community has banded together for a greater good and strives toward a collective mission.
WCS will be observing our traditional spring break from Monday through Friday. During this time, teachers will not be assigning new lessons. While traditional spring break travel is not occurring, we hope it can be a week of refreshment. We will resume our Monday, Wednesday and Friday eLearning schedule on April 13 and follow the governor’s order of remote learning through the remainder of the school year. Specific information, such as food distribution during spring break week, can be found on the WCS website at www.warsawschools.org.
To our teachers and staff: Thank you. I know you are greatly missing the students. Your heart shows through the modification and new interactions in eLearning lessons. Your hours on the phone with care calls are brightening days. Food Service, technology team and transportation, you have retooled your entire known profession to meet the basic needs of the youth in our community.
To our students: We fully understand these are historic events that bring a great deal of emotion. Thank you for continuing to focus on your eLearning assignments. Please, keep up this hard work. Sooner, rather than later, we will return to traditional school. These assignments are critical to ensure a smooth transition back. Please also take the time to journal and document your experiences. These reflections will help bring understanding. Future generations will be asking you about these times.
To our parents and community: Thank you for your support. Your patience, understanding and encouragement to both student learning and to our teachers and staff is incredible. So many people have reached out to volunteer and support in ways never imagined.
To our senior class of 2020: We both celebrate and grieve alongside you. I know this is not how you imagined the spring heading into graduation. Our commitment … we are going to find new ways to celebrate your achievements. Please hang-on and finish strong. More details will be coming in the following days.
Recent challenges have brought out the fiber and mission of our school community. I have never been more honored to be a WCS graduate, parent and superintendent. We will get through this together and be even stronger in the end. Stay safe, be healthy and GO TIGERS!
