Warsaw Community High School recently celebrated the opening of the new Warsaw Sports Pavilion located between the tennis courts and soccer fields. This new pavilion was made possible through the support of parents from both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams and boys’ tennis who raised the funds necessary to create the structure. The pavilion will allow for a meeting area for both academic groups as well as athletic teams. In order to raise the funding necessary for the pavilion, two fundraisers were held over the past two years. The first event, titled “Kick Back and Fly with Us,” was a trivia night hosted by lady tiger soccer parents. When organizing the second fundraiser, event coordinator Karin Steffensmeier enlisted the help of the boys’ tiger soccer team and their parents to host a Taco Fiesta. Over 400 pre-sale tickets were sold for this fundraiser. During the event the soccer teams supplied both food and service to guests. “Warsaw Community Schools is thankful for the parent and community support that enabled the donation and dedication of the new pavilion located between the tennis courts and soccer complex at Warsaw Community High School,” stated WCS Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert. “This new pavilion was envisioned by a group of parents that saw it to be an asset to both athletic and academic groups. These parents fundraised to make this project possible. A special thank you to all involved in the conception and realization of this project. Without your generous donation of time and resources, this project would not have been possible. We greatly look forward to using this facility for many years to come.” In the photo above are (L to R) Matt Binkerd, WCHS athletic director; Hoffert; Matt Buhrt, Buhrt Builders Inc.; Jennifer Buhrt, Buhrt Builders Inc.; Bailey Buhrt; Brenna Buhrt; and Richard Groninger, G&G Hauling.
