ATWOOD – Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood will be doing something for pets and pet owners this fall. Oct. 4 is the traditional feast day of Francis of Assisi, whom our Roman Catholic friends have named the patron saint of all animals. On Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., Otterbein UMC will be celebrating a service of blessing of the pets. In this special service the church remembers that God created and cares about pets, as well as the rest of creation.
The church thought this would be a wonderful opportunity for pet owners to share their blessing with the local animal shelter, which does its best to help the unwanted and abused animals of the community. So the church will be collecting supplies for the local Kosciusko Animal Welfare League. Those who come can bring a supply donation for the shelter to give during our offering time, but one is not necessary for your pet to be blessed.
Some of the requested items are as follows: paper towels/TP, germicidal wet wipes, bleach, Dawn dish soap (blue), liquid laundry soap, dog/cat wet/dry food, dog/cat treats/toys (no rawhide) and dog/cat leashes/collars. Reams of copy paper and ball point pens are also appreciated. Financial donations for the Animal Welfare League are also appreciated. An updated list of needs will be available at the service, as will a representative from the league to answer questions.
The service will take place behind the church. It’s a casual service so pets need not be in dresses and ties. Please make sure that they are under your control, and you have made provisions for “accidents.”
Please come and take part in this mission activity for the community.

Celebration UM To Hold Events In October
WINONA LAKE – Celebration United Methodist Church will have an all-church gathering Oct. 4 and 5. Call the church for details. The men’s breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 6. The Oasis bonfire hot dog roast will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 9. Pastor appreciation dinner will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 17.
Get ready "little goblins" Trunk or Treat will be at Celebration United Methodist Church from 5:30 to 7:30 p. Oct. 31.
Sunday sorship is at 10 a.m. Please join the church for praise, worship and fellowship.
