Warsaw, Wawasee Advance To Girls Golf Regional

WINONA LAKE – Though NorthWood dominated Saturday's girls golf sectional at Stonehenge, the Wawasee Lady Warriors, Warsaw Lady Tigers and Whitko's Guinny Garr did exactly what they needed to do ... survive and advance.

With the top three teams, as well as the top three individuals not on an advancing team, qualifying for the East Noble Regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links, NorthWood carded an impressive four-player score of 316, while Wawasee was second at 357 and the host Lady Tigers third with a 372.

Garr moved on after shooting an 89 and grabbing the final individual berth.

"The girls had a rough front nine, came in a little higher than what I was expecting, but on the back nine they really locked it down," said Warsaw coach Tad Nieter. "I was really happy that Marie and Grayson on their last last five holes tore it up, and then Delaney the whole back nine really locked it up. I was really happy for that."

Marie Frazzetta led the Lady Tigers with an 87, while Grayson Kilburn shot 91, Delaney Byron and Sidney Lancaster 97s and Brooklyn Fitzgerald 120.

"We've got a really young team, so this will be a great experience for them at the regional ... we're looking forward to it," said Nieter, whose lineup includes two sophomores, two juniors and a senior.

In a match at Noble Hawk earlier this season, Warsaw shot 360, its lowest 18-hole score of the season.

Belle Brunner shot the fifth-best score of the event Saturday and led Wawasee with an 82.

The rest of the Lady Warriors' lineup included Jadison Rostochak (90), Tate Cowan (92), Taylor Cripe (93) and Valerie Haessig (100).

“A top-5 finish for Belle, who knew and worked her good plan,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “Also a nice round by Jadison and Taylor. Quite a job by those two girls, which helped the team move on.”

Plymouth finished fourth in the eight-team field with a 379, followed by Whitko (391), Rochester (397), Tippecanoe Valley (417) and Bremen (425).

Triton had one competitor in the field, Madeline Ritchison, who carded 121.

Fresh off setting a record in the Northern Lakes Conference Meet, NorthWood set a Warsaw Sectional record with its 316 at Stonehenge.

Cybill Stillson shot 77 and garnered medalist honors for the Lady Panthers, who took the top four individual spots.

NorthWood's Kirsten Schrock and Makenna Gall shot 79s, and teammate Breanna Goss finished the day with an 81.

Delaney Davis rouned out the Lady Panthers' lineup with an 84.

Advancing as individuals were Rochester's Kristianna Lingenfelter (87), Plymouth's Olivia Waymouth (87) and Garr.

Madelyn Weaver led Valley with a 91.

Eastbrook Sectional

Manchester’s Samantha Kissell advanced to regional play at Noble Hawk on Saturday as the second individual on a non-advancing team, posting an 88 at Arbor Trace Golf Club in Marion.

The Lady Squires finished seventh in the eight-team field. Wabash was the team champion at 371, with Huntington North and Northfield finishing second and third, respectively, after a fifth-player tiebreaker sorted them from identical 372’s.

Other Manchester scores were Alissa Bickerstaff, 102; Kayla Hippensteel, 114; Chaynee Tennant, 122; and Delani Henderson, 129.
