Triton Boys Tennis Gets Big Conference Win Over North Judson

BOURBON – Cole McKinney and Chandler Westafer came back from a set down to win a thrilling match 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, clinching a 3-2 win for host Triton over Hoosier North Athletic Conference contender North Judson in boys tennis Thursday.

Connor Large took a tight two-set decision, 7-5, 6-4 over the Bluejays’ Gavin Alonso at No. 2 singles. The other Trojan victory came at No. 1 doubles, where Jared Bules and Tyler Heckaman took a 6-0, 6-4 win over  Kyle Burkett and Andrew Attinger.

At No. 1 singles, Triton’s John Gardner fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to North Judson’s Hayden Kaminski. North Judson’s Caleb Sherman handled Gavin Greer at No. 3 singles for the other Bluejays win.

Triton improved to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in the HNAC. North Judson fell to 7-7 and 4-1 in the conference.

The Trojans will play in the Portage Invitational Saturday.



Zebras Edge Valley In Finale


ROCHESTER – Tippecanoe Valley wrapped up its regular season with a narrow 193-199 loss to Rochester in a Three Rivers Conference girls golf match at Round Barn Golf Club Thursday.

Madelyn Weaver paced the Vikings with a 44, followed by Kaydence Mellott at 45. Other Valley scores were Molly Moriarty, 55; Lily Ault, 57; Lydia Miller, 57; Cheney Canada, 58; and Hestina Kim, 60.

Valley will play in the Warsaw Sectional at Stonehenge Golf Club in Winona Lake Saturday.

Lady Cougars Win

AUBURN – Jessi Calizo had a hat trick, with Tori Calizo and Liza Schmitt adding single goals in Lakeland Christian Academy’s 5-1 win over host Lakewood Park Christian in girls soccer Thursday.

The Cougars (7-3) travel to Argos for a 7:30 p.m. match Saturday.



Wawasee Tennis Blanks Memorial

ELKHART – While there were a couple of tight sets, Wawasee took a 5-0 win at Elkhart Memorial in Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis Thursday.

The Warriors’ Holden Babb used a first-set tiebreaker on his way to a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut won 7-5, 6-2.

Zach Leedy at No. 1 singles, Jack Gibbons at No. 3 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Colin Rhoades and Zeke Keim all won handily, none dropping more than four games in their straight-set victories.

Wawasee also won two of the three junior varsity matches. Jay duncan won in singles play, and Devon Kuhn and Taylor Fiedeke teamed to win their doubles match.

Next up for Wawasee’s varsity (5-8, 1-5 NLC) is a conference match in Nappanee against host NorthWood Monday.

LCA?Blanks New Prairie

WINONA LAKE – Parker Stewart had a hat trick and Garrett McKeever scored twice for Lakeland Christian Academy in its 6-0 win over New Prairie in boys soccer Thursday.

Stewart and Oak Janjaroen had two assists each, and Brayden Lane scored once for the Cougars.

"We were better defensively tonight. The team started slow, but Parker got us going with a couple of great goals,” said LCA head coach Dan Miller. “Garrett McKeever and Michael Easterling controlled the midfield tonight, and Landon Paris was back to help solidify us defensively."

The Cougars play host to Granger Christian at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.



Valley Wins TRC Match

PERU – Brandon Montes and Osbaldo Sanchez scored the first two goals for Tippecanoe Valley, who went on to a 5-0 win over host Peru in Three Rivers Conference soccer Thursday.

Caleb Petgen, Jesus Baca and Christian Ramirez all scored in the second half for the Vikings.

Next up for Valley is a game against Lakeland Christian at Grace College on Thursday.
