DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Manchester women's tennis team was defeated by 6-3 Defiance College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

MU (0-6, 0-2 HCAC) picked up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 and 2 singles. The duo of Manchester High School alum Karly Eichenauer and Former Tippecanoe Valley Viking  Morgan Brazo battled to an 8-4 win in doubles action.

Eichenauer won her third singles match of the year on Wednesday, defeated Defiance's A.J. Breneman 6-1, 6-1. Brazo earned a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 triumph at the No. 2 singles position.

The Yellow Jackets moved to 2-4, 1-2 HCAC with the win. Manchester will host Earlham College at noon Saturday as HCAC play continues.

St. Mary’s (Ind.) Narrowly Edges Manchester In OT

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester University women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with visiting St. Mary's (Ind).

Manchester opened the scoring on Wednesday afternoon. Katie Green played a corner kick into the box that found Jessica Hudnall. She was able to play the ball forward and her short flick towards the goal eventually found Sydnee Jensen who finished in the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

MU held its lead for about eight minutes until the Belles equalized in the 13th minute. Both teams remained neck-and-neck the remainder of regulation.

Two minutes into overtime, Rose Stackhouse's header just crossed over the goal line before bouncing out. Stackhouse's eighth goal of 2019 lifted the Belles to a 2-1 victory.

For the match, St. Mary's held a slight advantage in the total shot count, 18-13. The Spartans outshot SMC 9-7 in the first half. Both teams were even on corner kicks (4-4).

St. Mary's improved to 5-3 on the season. The Spartans (0-5) will play a pair of road games this weekend. The Spartans will travel to Olivet College on Friday. Kickoff in Michigan will be at 4 p.m.

The Spartans will then travel to No. 24 Otterbein on Sunday for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Cardinals.
