High School Sports Recaps For Sept. 17

CULVER – Parker Stewart scored three goals and added an assist, and Oak Janjareon added a pair of goals and an assist for Lakeland Christian Academy its 10-2 non-conference boys soccer win at Culver Community Tuesday.

Five other Cougars, Garrett McKeever, Brayden Lane, Michael Easterling, Nate Reimink and Landen Bremer, scored goals in the match. Easterling and McKeever were credited with two assists each.

Peter Koller had four saves for LCA.

“It was good for us to score some goals and have some things we’ve been working on in training translate to a game,” said Cougar head coach Dan Miller. “We still need to be more solid defensively, however I was pleased with the amount of guys that contributed tonight.”

Next up for the Cougars (6-3) is a home match with New Prairie Thursday.



No. 10 Manchester Remains Unbeaten

NORTH MANCHESTER – Class 2A No. 10 Manchester had goals from?Caleb Stout and two more from Harley Kruschwitz, one on either side of halftime, to get a 3-1 win over visiting Norwell in a non-conference boys soccer match Tuesday.

Stout scored off a pass from Michael Ortiz, and Kruschwitz scored his second goal off a free kick from about 30 yards out.

The Squires (11-0) will travel to Winona Lake to take on Lakeland Christian at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Steffensmeier Sets Record

In Lady Tiger Win

Abby Steffensmeier wrote her name into the history books Monday night as 3A No. 19 Warsaw defeated visiting Fort Wayne Northrop 5-1 in a non-conference girls soccer match.

The Warsaw forward only needed two goals to break the all-time record for the Tigers, but she finished with three goals and two assists on the monumental night to make her new career total 71 goals.

Those eight points on the night also tied her for Warsaw's all-time points record at 170. Both records were held by Liz Van Wormer, now a senior at Grace College, where she's amassed 25 goals and 10 assists over the course of her career.

Corissa Koontz added a goal and an assist while Audrey Grimm also scored for the Tigers (7-3-1).

Warsaw hosts No. 11 Penn at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Tiger Soccer Complex.



Squires Edge Oak Hill

NORTH MANCHESTER – Class 2A No. 10 Manchester trailed 1-0 at halftime but came back to beat visiting Oak Hill 2-1 in a non-conference boys soccer match Monday at Good Field.

Harley Kruschwitz scored the equalizer early in the second half for the Squires, then Brandon Hernandez scored off a Kruschwitz rebound to give Manchester the lead.

Hernandez also scored both goals for the Squire junior varsity in its 2-0 win over Oak Hill.
