Jerry L. Harris, 79, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at his residence.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1940, in Marion, Ind., to Wilford and Anna E. Surface Harris.

He grew up in Marion, graduated from Marion High School in 1958 and served in the United States Army. He was married to Valerie L. Everhart on April 14, 1979, in Marion, and retired in 1985 from the Marion Fire Department after 20 years. He moved to the Leesburg area from Marion 30 years ago.  

He is survived by wife, Valerie Harris, of Leesburg; daughter, Michelle Gilmore, of North Webster; son, Thomas (Cassie) Dodson, of Leesburg; five grandchildren, MSgt. Dominic Wimsatt, Cameron Harris, Duke Gilmore, Christian Dodson and Kylie Dodson; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jackie Nieverson, of Marion.

A private family service will take place at a later date. Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
