Outboard Motor
Show, Swap?Meet
The Antique Outboard Motor Club will hold their 2019 Fall Antique Outboard Motor Show and Swap Meet on Sept. 21 at the North Webster Town Park (DIXIE tour boat dock) on the west shore of Webster Lake.
Several hundred antique outboard motor restorers, historians, collectors and enthusiasts from across the Midwest will gather in the park for a day of activities related to their hobb. The events include an exhibition of recent restoration projects, serious swapping of parts and literature, plus running the old-time motors on the lake. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. There is no admission fee.
Club members invite area owners of old outboard motors to attend the meet for an evalutation of their old motors. Many antique motors are bought, sold and evaluated through the day. The swapping area includes all types of parts, literature, related accessories and many antique motors.
The national Antique Outboard Motor Club, with over 5,000 members, classifies an antique outboard as being manufactured prior to 1950 and a classic outboard over 30 years old (prior to 1989).
The North Webster meet starts at approximately 10 a.m. and usually runs to mid afternnon. Many participants stay late in the day if the weather is nice to run their antique motors on the lake.

The monthly meeting of the Frances Slocum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) took place Sept. 10 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Activity Room, Wabash.
The meeting opened with the DAR ritual. Devotions centered on the Constitution were given by Tammy Wise, Chaplain. The September President General's message from Denise Doring VanBuren was shared by Joyce Joy. The important thing is to rise up in service to your community and then shine by using both traditional and social media to illustrate our mission. This is how DAR will change the public’s frequent misperception that DAR is insular, outdated and inactive.
The National Defender Report was on the Gold Star Mother’s Day, which is observed on the last Sunday in September each year as a day for people to recognize and honor those who have lost a son or daughter while they served in the United States Armed Forces.
The Indian Committee Minute report was given by Pat King. Mary Jenet Penrod gave the Conservation Minute on “What is the impact of invasive species?” The American Flag Minute stated on Dec. 28, 1945, Congress made the Pledge of Allegiance the official national pledge to the U.S. Flag. The Constitution Minute, shared by Tammy Wise, stated only one constitutional amendment has ever been enacted to repeal another. The Women’s Issue Minute was on cell phone bill surprises.
