The run/walk begins from the K21 Health Pavilion, around the Beyer Farm Trail and finishes back near the KCH campus in the Health Pavilion parking lot.
The CCF volunteers organize various events throughout the year, including a glow golf tournament at Maxwelton Golf Course, the Steve Dodds’ Golf Fundraiser at Tippe Lake Country Club, the annual Dinner/Dance and Auction and The Freaky 5K.
This year’s race director, Brian Shepherd, is not only well established for organizing races in Noble County and Kosciusko County, but is an avid runner himself.
The Freaky 5K has something for all levels of running and walking. This race is to be a fun, family event and people should come appropriately dressed for Halloween. Costumes are encouraged.
As a fundraiser, The Freaky 5K targets a completely different group of people who may not know about the CCF, yet are passionate about supporting cancer-related fundraisers and are avid runners, according to a news release. What is unique about the CCF, is that 100% of all net funds raised are used to financially assist cancer patients and their families in Kosciusko County. The K21 Health Foundation administers the fund at no cost, meaning more money goes to friends and neighbors that are in need. Having the Lutheran Health Network/KCH get behind the cause and be the title sponsor is a big boost to the fundraiser, the release states.
There are several ways to become involved: as a participant in the run/walk, a volunteer for the event or make a direct donation to the Cancer Care Fund. Participants can go online to the following sites for a link to pre-register:
• Cancer Care Fund KC Facebook page
All participants that pre-register will get a souvenir t-shirt.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the K21 Health Pavilion, 1515 Provident Court, Warsaw. There will be a brief program at 9 a.m. and the race/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. The race will be chip timed.
To become a volunteer for the event or to get more information, contact Shepherd at shepherdb@westnoble.k12.in.us or Ron Smock at RonS@idppromo.com.
