SYRACUSE – Gene H. Stoffel, 90, of Syracuse, passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Mason’s Health Care.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1928, in Huntington, to Frank and Mary Gill Stoffel.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea. He was a Budweiser rep for many years. Upon retirement, he owned and operated the liquor store in Pierceton.

Gene was an avid golfer, having belonged to many golf clubs, including South Bend CC, Maplecrest CC, Tippy CC, LaFountaine CC, Crooked Lake CC, South Shore and Max Welton. The latter two over 60 years. He was club champion in all of them, some of them several times. He won several Indiana amateur titles and senior amateur titles.

Gene is survived by his wife, Gloria Stoffel, of Syracuse; one son, Randy (Vicki) Stoffel, of Florida; one daughter, Shellann Stewart, of Idaho; three stepdaughters: Cinda (Bart) Culver, of North Webster; Candice (Tim) Hine, of North Webster; and Cathy Heckaman, of Syracuse; three stepsons: Christopher (Kathy) Singrey, of Milford; Chad Singrey, of Larwill; and Curt Singrey, of Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helene Craig, of Huntington.

He was preceded by an infant son, one stepdaughter, one grandson, two great-grandchildren, three brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. followed by military rites.
