Man Found On McKenna Road  Was Dead; ID’d As 20-Year-Old Indy Man

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office has identified Ty Sawyer Lee Brown, 20, Indianapolis, as the deceased man discovered on McKenna Road Monday morning.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, and the manner and cause of Brown’s death are pending results of an autopsy being conducted at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, a KCSO news release states.

A person called 911 around 5 a.m. Monday that an unresponsive man was lying on McKenna Road near JT’s Lakeside Campground, formerly known as Pic-A-Spot Campground.

It was determined that the man left the Barbee Landing on foot, heading west, around 2:30 a.m., according to police.

Police are asking anyone with home security footage in the area, or anyone with any information regarding this investigation, to contact Det. Sgt. Josh Spangle or Det. Neil Likens at 574-267-5667. See the Crimestoppers item on page 2A.



Webster Man Charged With Escape

A North Webster man is charged with escape after removing an ankle bracelet that was put on him after being convicted of burglary.

Kenneth Lee Sanchez, 21, of 309 S. Main St., was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 8:34 p.m. Thursday and faces an escape charge, a Level 6 felony.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed July 16 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, Sanchez was convicted Jan. 16 on three counts of burglary. On Feb. 11, Sanchez was accepted into the county’s Community Corrections home detention program and was ordered to wear a GPS tracking device until Oct. 29, 2021.

Court papers state Sanchez removed his ankle bracelet on July 15.

He’s being held without bond.

Suspect In Meth Deal Makes Bond,

Awaiting Sept. 19 Court Date

An accused meth dealer posted a $25,000 bond Thursday and was released from Kosciusko County Jail.

Taylor Leigh Knecht, 27, of 12355 W. CR 800S, Silver Lake, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:42 p.m. Thursday and faces one charge of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony, and one count of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed July 31 in Kosciusko Circuit Court, officers with NET43 Drug Task Force conducted a controlled buy of 29 grams of methamphetamine from Knecht in April.

Knecht is due in court at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 19.



Shot Fired During Fight At Home;

Man Battered, Police Seek Suspects

 PIERCETON – A fight on Labor Day that involved a shot fired into a Pierceton home’s ceiling ended with one man being taken to the hospital.

At 5:37 a.m. Monday, Central Dispatch received a call about a fight in progress at a home on Ryerson Road, Pierceton. Warsaw and Winona Lake police department officers initially responded until the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office could arrive, KCSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis said.

Police discovered a woman and 47-year-old Wabash man at the home who alleged that two men and one woman broke into the house. An altercation over money ensued and, during the altercation, a shot was fired and the man at the house was battered, Francis said.

The suspect in the case is a 47-year-old man from Pierceton.

Francis said the Pierceton man, another man and a woman left in a dark-colored Jeep possibly still in possession of the firearm.

The man from the house was taken by private vehicle to the hospital.

Pierceton Fire Department and Lutheran EMS also assisted.

The investigation is ongoing.
