If you are looking for a tasty ingredient with a great story behind it, come to The Olive Branch in Winona Lake. Among the many you may choose from, they proudly host an 18-year and a 50-year aged balsamic. I personally believe their most impressive offering is the biancolilla extra virgin olive oil.

What makes this bottle rare is that it is imported from Italy. Did you know that it is virtually impossible to import certain types of oils and vinegars from countries such as Italy and Greece because they consume as much as they make? Thankfully, The Olive Branch has a talented and experienced supplier on their team.

There is a taste that is unique to oils and vinegars of this quality. That high quality flavor cannot be reproduced. An example of this superb richness is in their Blood Orange Ghirardelli Brownie. Instead of vegetable oil, The Olive Branch uses their creation, the blood orange olive oil. This variety of orange is darker with a taste between light raspberry and tangerine.

At first, I bit into a moist and chewy chocolate brownie, but as I finished that first bite, there appeared a fresh beautiful note of distinct blood orange flavor.

But it’s not just their products that make The Olive Branch special. It’s the owners, Billy and Maria Hutchinson, who have such down-to-earth personalities that you will feel like you’ve known them forever. They bought the business in February and have rebranded it to a tasting room. Their inspiration and drive came from his grandparents, Otto and Dovie Hutchinson. They instilled in him the love and support of family.

What really stood out to me was their friendliness. Billy definitely has that all-American homegrown vibe that makes you feel you’ve been friends all your life. It was a wonderful place to be. When a couple of kids came through the doors, Billy picked up a conversation with them about the exciting features of the park and Splashpad just down the road.

When I asked him what he loves most about Winona Lake, he replied, “It’s the people; they are the whole reason.”

And boy, did the local community come out and support them for their grand opening in late June. It was Billy and Maria's dedication to their community that created a lovely social evening.

When l walked into this business, I was inspired to cook and create.  I was met with bright summer vibes.  Their products offer health benefits such as heart health, weight loss and much more.  I can use multiple combinations of their products to accentuate any of my home-cooked dishes.

So come on out even if you are not familiar with balsamic and olive oil. You will soon see for yourself how these fresh ingredients support and enhance your everyday life and cooking.

You might even find yourself repeating a phrase which  most guests visiting this shop mention, “ Ooh, that IS good!”
