Gary Neace and Katelynn Staab have been dating for a year and were a little financially strapped for a big to-do wedding, but that all changed when they started volunteering their time at “Zombies Alive” at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds.
“We were thinking about a Halloween-themed wedding, and we didn’t have the money, then we volunteered and they said they could help us out with that,” Staab said. “This is exactly what we wanted.”
The bride and groom will wear formal wedding attire for the Saturday ceremony, that starts at 7 p.m. and will include around 50 guests.
“We’ve asked all of our guests to put on their best costumes,” Neace said.
The bride and groom said they were both raised in “Pagan Christian” families and that Nov. 1 marks the Celtic new year.
“It’s a time to shut off the old and start the new year off,” Neace said.
Neace’s sister-in-law is officiating the wedding. After the ceremony, Neace is going to suit up in his zombie gear and head out back to the field where Staab will get the first paintball shot at him. Their nieces and nephews will then shoot at Neace.
“Our family is so excited,” Staab said. They’ve got people coming in from Texas, North Carolina and Michigan.
Staab and Neace also are expecting.
Zombies Alive and Soul Takers Acres is open from 8 to 11 p.m. for its last weekend at the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday.
