Triton Wins Volleyball Sectional; Regional At Culver
FRANCESVILLE – After getting a first-round bye, Triton swept host West Central in the semifinals and beat Oregon Davis in four games to claim the Class 1A Sectional 50 title Saturday.
In the 25-13. 25-12, 25-20 win over West Central, Lexia Hostrawser had 10 kills, seven blocks and two aces. Abbey Viers had 22 kills, Molly McFarland had 15 digs, Jaela Faulkner had 12 digs, Dylanie Miller had 19 assists and Emma Hepler 15 assists for Triton.
After dropping the first set to Oregon Davis, Triton came back for a 24-26, 25-10, 25-13, 25-13 win for the title. Hostrawser has 14 kills, four aces and two blocks against the Bobcats. Abbey Viers has 23 kills, Alyxa Viers had 17 digs, Hepler had 23 assists and two aces, Faulkner had 18 digs and two aces and Miller had 20 assists.
Triton (16-14) will play in the Culver Community regional semifinals against Morgan Township (27-5) at 11 a.m. Saturday. In the other semifinal about 1 p.m., Lakewood Park Christian (20-9) takes on Pioneer (28-5). The regional title match will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.
2 Wawasee Runners Advance To Semistate
DUNLAP – Wawasee’s Karlson Hand and Michael Hammer qualified for semistate by virtue of placing 15th and 21st, respectively, at the IHSAA Elkhart Central Boys Cross Country Regional at OxBow Park near Elkhart Saturday.
Hand completed the course in 16:59 and Hammer in 17:02, and advance by finishing among the top 10 runners not on advancing teams. Also competing for the Warriors were Jace Alexander (66th, 18:21) and Cam Powell (70th, 18:31).
The Lady Warriors were represented by Emma Ebright (32nd, 21:14) and Cammy Kryder (40th, in a season-best 21:37).
The two Warriors will race in the New Haven regional at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Tigers Fall To Penn In 5 At Volleyball Sectional
GOSHEN – In a see-saw affair, Warsaw won the first set, then staved off elimination with a fourth-set win before falling to Penn in five sets at the Class 4A Goshen Volleyball Sectional Saturday, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 15-8;.
Statistical for Warsaw included: Kaylee Weeks, 13 kills; Avery Hales 10 kills, 37 assists, 2 blocks, 2 aces, 8 digs; Betty Barnett, 10 kills. 2 blocks; Gwyn Bellamy, 8 kills, 2 blocks; Kennedy Lauck, 8 kills; Abby Sanner, 7 kills, 6 blocks; Abby Porter, 5 assists; Kylie Smith, 20 digs, 2 aces; Kendra Love 20 digs, Liz Schmidt 17 digs; and Katie Schmidt, 3 aces.
Penn went on to beat Elkhart Memorial for the sectional title.
Warsaw finished its season with a 25-8 record.
Panthers Sweep Vikings In Volleyball Sectional
SYRACUSE – Tippecanoe Valley’s volleyball season ended Saturday with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 loss to NorthWood at the 3A Wawasee Sectional.
Amy Baca had seven kills and a block for the Vikings, while Makenzie Woodcox added seven more kills. Brayden Baney had nine digs and an ace, Hannah Engstrand had seven assists and an ace, and Alli Miller and Ally Betten had an ace each.
NorthWood went on to beat West Noble for the sectional title.
Valley finished with a 21-11 record.
