Late Field Goal Sends Winamac Past Triton

WINAMAC – Max Murray kicked a 27-yard field goal with about 10 seconds left to send Winamac to a 23-20 win over visiting Triton in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference finale for both teams Friday night.

The Trojans jumped out to an early 12-0 lead on a 58-yard touchdown run by Hunter McIntyre and D’Angelo Shumpert’s 30-yard TD catch from Connor Pitney.

After Winamac claimed a 20-12 lead, McInryre caught a 37-yard TD pass from Pitney, and the Trojans forged a tie with the two-point conversion, setting up Murray’s heroics.

McIntyre rushed for 166 yards on 21 carries for Triton.

Triton (2-7) hosts Northfield (5-4) in a Class 1A sectional game Friday night.



Wabash Downs Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY – Ethan Schuh had 63 yards passing and rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown for Whitko in its 26-14 loss to visiting Wabash in Three Rivers Conference football Friday night.

Isaiah Kyles carried the ball 20 times for Whitko, gaining 108 yards. He added three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats.

Whitko (0-9) travels to Prairie Heights (1-8), east of LaGrange, in the opening round of  a Class 2A sectional Friday night.

INDINANPOLIS – Cross country runners representing Triton, Warsaw and Wawasee were honored as Academic All-State or Honorable Mention by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Associations.

Named to the first team were Triton junior Brandon Kitch and Warsaw senior Austin Fleming and juniors Sam Lechlitner and Jacob Kissling.

Honorable mention went to Triton junior Parker Alford, Warsaw senior Fernando Niebbia and juniorIan Denzer, and Wawasee junior Ella Beezley.
