By Staff Report-
For many, having a family member, friend or work associate diagnosed with cancer can leave you feeling helpless as they face their upcoming battle.
The Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County raises money to assist those who have financial needs so they can concentrate on treatment and work to become a healthy survivor. Over the past 20 years, well over $2 million has been raised to help residents of Kosciusko County as they battle cancer, according to a news release.
Over the years, events have included fashion shows, summer cocktail parties, a golf fundraiser, a dinner/dance and auction, a glow golf night tournament, and a Halloween-themed 5K race. In addition to the committee efforts, many service clubs, student organizations, businesses and philanthropic individuals organize their own events independent of the KCCCF and donate the money they raise to the fund.
The fund also receives private donations made in memory of individuals who have died.
In 2018, nearly $200,000 was distributed on behalf of 113 cancer patients and their families. These funds were used to cover housing costs, utilities, transportation and food, just to name a few. Already in 2019, more than $155,000 has been disbursed on behalf of 94 clients.
The committee needs your help, the release states. Many of the volunteers who serve on the fundraising committee are from the Syracuse area. The committee is looking to recruit volunteers who live or work in Warsaw or other areas of Kosciusko County. The need is threefold: to raise awareness of the assistance available through the fund; to increase participation in the events currently offered; and then to expand the variety of fundraising events in those communities as well.
