The Sept. 21 meeting of the American Association of Women of Warsaw was held in the Community Room at Miller’s Merry Manor.

President Marsha Cook called the meeting to order, and Stephanie Dutcheau called attendance with each member answering by telling about their first job where they got a paycheck. Visitors were introduced and told the members a little about themselves and their first job.

Ruth Jones read the minutes of the last meeting, and Cindy Nolton gave the treasurer’s report and presented the 2019-2020 budget.

Cook said she met with Amber Brown, who received the AAUW scholarship last spring. Cook said Brown was an impressive young lady, and after she read the thank-you note from Brown, the membership agreed. The group discussed the guideline for the scholarship, which is selected through Kosciusko County Community Foundation.

In new business, Pam Chastain was installed as the vice president of programs.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Branch of AAUW. To celebrate, Cook and Pam Chastain had a cake for the members.

The speaker, Jean Northener, was unable to attend the meeting, so Chastain presented an overview of Northener and her many accomplishments. Northener has been very active in the community and started Kosciusko Leadership Academy.

Refreshments were served by the hostess committee, Becky Lambert, June Steahly, Carol Rappe, Doris Cook and Ruth Jones.

Anyone interested in joining AAUW should call Marsha Cook at 574-453-0889 or plan to attend the Oct. 14 meeting at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Miller’s Merry Manor. The annual silent auction will be held and it is a good time to pick up some Christmas gifts or something for yourself.
