NORTH WEBSTER – After a few years’ absence, the North Webster Christmas Tree Lighting returned to downtown Saturday to help bring the community together for the holidays.

The two-hour event was sponsored by the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce.

“This event was held a few years ago for multiple years and has kind of not happened for the last three years, so we decided to bring it back,” said Amanda Meerzo, Chamber vice president, event committee chair and Mohawk Pier+Lift co-owner. “Just to bring the community together. It’s important, I think, for us to all get together so this was a perfect time to do it.”

Many businesses participated in this year’s event and offered specials, she said.

“There was some free food, free hot chocolate, free hot cider, free cookies. And then we all came together around the tree and did some caroling together,” Meerzo said.

Inside Tangibles, Oswalt Bakery & Café provided doughnuts and cookies that people could decorate and then enjoy. There also was free chili.

Many people were gathered inside The River for free hot chocolate and socializing. Mohawk Pier+Lift donated the cocoa.

Sue’s Creations offered store specials while face painting was offered to the children. Ace Hardware gave out free popcorn. Roll N Smoke food truck was parked across from Pilcher’s Shoes with a full menu for sale.

Locals Mike Beezley and Anna Gibson led the caroling as candles were lit by those in attendance. Meerzo said the candle-lighting was just another way to bring the community together.

“We plan to keep doing this every year, so we will hopefully be even bigger next year and would love to have you join us. Follow our Facebook page, the North Webster Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce, for updates on when we’ll be having it next year,” Meerzo said.
