A North Webster man pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual misconduct with a minor and child exploitation.

William James Rex, 36, of 8534 E. Bond St., North Webster, appeared in front of Kosciusko Superior Court I Judge David Cates and entered a guilty plea, per the terms of a plea agreement, to sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 4 felony; and two counts of child exploitation, Level 5 felonies. A Level 6 felony charge of possession of child pornography was dropped as part of the plea deal.

The agreement reads Rex will not be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison, with six years being the maximum executed. Rex also will have to register as a sex offender upon his release and relinquish all of his electronic devices to the Kosciusko County Sheriff and prosecutor offices.

Cates said the Level 4 felony carries a sentence of two to 12 years, and the Level 5 felonies carry sentences between one and six years.

Cates will take the plea under advisement until sentencing at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 19.

According to the probable cause affidavit, sheriff’s deputies were told that Rex had inappropriate photos of two children. One of the children told police Rex had taken her to dinner in July and purchased her some vape cartridges, then took her back to his residence. Rex allegedly informed the child that if she didn’t want him to take pictures of her, then she would need to pay him for the dinner and vape cartridges.

“Rex showed the child multiple pictures of another young girl, that the child knew, in a state of nudity and dressed in lingerie,” the probable cause affidavit states. Rex then told the child he had sex with the girl in the photo.

The child told police that she had gone out to dinner with Rex about two or three times since and Rex would provide her with lingerie and photograph her wearing it. Court papers state the child informed police a couple of weeks ago Rex had the child put on the lingerie, handcuffed her behind her back and then took photos.

The other victim told police that on Aug. 30, Rex took her to Fort Wayne for dinner then afterward took her to Cirilla’s adult shop and purchased lingerie for her. Rex allegedly then took her back to his house and photographed the child.

Both victims told police Rex would take the photos with his cellphone then transfer them onto his computer.

A third victim told police she had sex with Rex two times, once at her house, and once at his, and that Rex also took photos of her wearing lingerie.

When police interviewed Rex, he “confessed everything that the victims had indicated actually happened and went into detail describing each incident,” the probably cause affidavit states.

He’s been held on a $50,250 bond since his arrest Aug. 31.
