Cops Say Syracuse Man Dealt Meth, Stole Goods From Walmart

Warren James Davies, 37, of 9928 N. Happiness Drive, Syracuse, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and faces charges of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony; two counts of making a false sales document, Level 6 felonies; and two counts of theft, Class A misdemeanors.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Nov. 15 in Kosciusko Circuit Court, on July 30 NET 43 officers conducted a controlled purchase of 6.5 grams of meth from Davies. The deal was recorded by digital surveillance.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Nov. 4 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, Warsaw police spoke with employees of Walmart and were told a man came in Aug. 29 and self-scanned a vacuum sweeper using a UPC sticker for 97 cents. The sweeper is valued at $109. When employees approached the man, he fled and left the merchandise behind. Court papers state he had scanned several other items using wrong UPC stickers, with the value totaling $235.06.
Police also were told by employees that the same man had came into the store Aug. 25 and did the same sticker switch, this time trying to purchase a bow and arrow for 97 cents. The bow is valued at $294.71. Court paper state when employees approached the man, he fled and left behind the merchandise.
Police were able to identify Davies through store security footage.
According to court records, Davies was convicted of theft on Sept. 19, 2002, in Kosciusko Circuit Court; on June 27, 2017, in Kosciusko Superior Court II; and on April 12, 2017, in Kosciusko Superior Court III. The Superior Court III conviction banned Davies from entering any Meijer store in the United States for the rest of his life.
He’s being held on a $26,000 bond.
