Employee at bar accused of stealing

A security guard at the Frog Tavern was arrested after his employer allegedly discovered him taking money from the pool tables.

Scott P. Adams, 41, Bristol, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday for theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed June 12 in Kosciusko Superior Court II, on Dec. 26, 2018, the owner of the Frog Tavern went to police to report the theft of money from the pool tables at his bar. The bar owner produced security camera footage to police that showed Adams taking quarters out of a velvet Crown Royale bag, court papers state. Records also indicate Adams was privately employed as a security guard for the bar.

Adams’ bond was set at $600. He’s due in court at 1 p.m. Monday.

Manhunt ends with suspect captured

A man who fled on foot after a traffic stop caused a three hour manhunt in North Webster Wednesday.

Tristen Terry, 34, of Cromwell, was pulled over around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and took off running in the area of the Tri-County Game Preserve, east of North Webster. Officers immediately established a perimeter and K9 units and drones were requested to respond to the scene, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis said.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., Terry fled in a vehicle driving from the Tri-County area. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the pursuit, which ended at 3:47 p.m. on East Excalibur Place, Cromwell, Francis said.

Pammy Jo Sanchez, 54, of Cromwell, also was arrested for interfering with the pursuit.

KCSO sought the public’s help in locating Terry through a Facebook Page post and said Terry has a firearm warrant for his arrest.

Wawasee Community School Corporation was reported to have gone on a “soft lockdown” during the manhunt.

Francis said more information about the investigation will be released today.

Farm accident victims’ names released

Kosciusko County Coroner Tony Ciriello released the names of the two children killed Tuesday in a farm accident.

Jaylin Hochstetler, 5, and his brother, Kenton Hochstetler, 3, died as a result of blunt force trauma from the injuries they received Tuesday after being struck by a tractor-trailer hauling grain.

First responders were called at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday to 5370 W. CR 1350N, Nappanee, after the grain truck, driven by Benjamin Tyler Sheets, 26, Nappanee, went into motion. Police believe the children were playing underneath the trailer.

The children were pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office, and the crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Team.

Fort Wayne man faces check fraud charge

A Fort Wayne man is in jail and accused of writing a bad check for items at an auction.

Jason Boyd Cook, 42, Fort Wayne, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday and faces a Level 6 felony charge of check fraud.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed June 26 in Kosciusko County, on Feb. 9, Willie Sparkman, of Sparkman Auctions, told police he received a check from Cook for $2,273.22 in exchange for multiple items, including an oil-less fryer, metal detector, trampoline, toys and more.

Sparkman discovered the check was bad two days later when he took it to the bank, court papers state.

Police called a phone number Cook provided at the auction and was told by a woman that Cook wasn’t home but would call them back. Cook never called back.

His bond is set at $5,250. He’s expected in court at 1 p.m. Monday.
