Spartan Football Crushes Rival Anderson

Manchester University defeated Anderson 70-54 as the two historic Indiana Division III institutions renewed their heated rivalry. The Spartans retained the coveted Bronze Ball Trophy for a ninth consecutive year.
The Spartans and Ravens combined for 1,301 yards of total offense.
For Manchester, the record-setting career of senior running back Donavan Henderson, Jr. could not have ended on a higher note. Henderson broke the Manchester single-game record for rushing yards – by nearly 100 yards – as he racked up 394 yards on the ground.
Henderson also rushed for eight touchdowns, breaking his own record for rushing touchdowns in a single game, set earlier this season in a 52-24 win at Defiance. He also tallied a career-long, 69-yard touchdown sprint in the fourth quarter in which he broke numerous tackles en route to the end zone. Henderson averaged 13.1 yards a carry on Saturday afternoon.
Henderson, Jr. finished his four-year career as MU’s all-time leading rusher with 3,969 yards. He is MU’s all-time leader in touchdowns by non-QB with 53. He owns the top two rushing seasons in school history. Last season, Henderson ran for 1,268 and 17 TDs. This season, Henderson posted totals of 1,709 rushing yards and 20 TDs.
Senior quarterback Austin Roberts ran for the other two Manchester touchdowns. He finished with 92 yards on the ground while completing 6-of-10 passes for 120 yards. Freshman receiver Brian Antoine caught four passes for 58 yards.
Senior linebacker Justin Thomas finished with 13 total tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss for seven yards against the Ravens. Devontay Moore added another sack, bringing his HCAC-leading total to 11 this season.
Both Nick Tillman and Jaquan Walker intercepted passes.
Anderson’s offense totaled 657 yards to Manchester’s 644. AU’s quarterback Tyson Harley completed 47-of-65 for 573 yards and five touchdowns.
Manchester won back-to-back games to conclude the 2019 season. MU finished with a record of 4-6, 3-4 HCAC.
Anderson ended the 2019 season with a record of 3-7, 1-6 HCAC.
3 Spartan CC Runners Earn All-Region Honors
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Manchester University women's cross country team placed two runners on the Great Lakes All-Region team on Saturday afternoon. Senior Hannah Wappes placed 22nd with a time of 22:06, while and junior Ana Acevedo earned a 31st place finish after posting a time of 22:26. Saturday's race featured 233 total runners. Both Wappes and Acevedo garnered All-Great Lakes Region honors.
As a team, the Spartans placed 12th out of 34 teams in a highly competitive field that included all the member institutions of the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region.
Other notable performances from Saturday included Emily Ewen, who was the third Spartan to finish, placing 106th with a time of 23:47. Sydney Young placed just behind Ewen at 106th with an overall time of 23:53.46. Former Manchester High School runner Emily Lynn posted a time of 23:58, good for 111th place.
