Katie Svinarich, age 88, previously of Winona Lake, passed away quietly on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester.

Born Catherine A. Evans, she was the daughter of John and Anna Logan Evans. She was born in Duncanwood, Ohio, and attended schools in the area before graduating from nurse’s college in West Virginia.

Katie devoted her life to caring for others. She was a nurse by trade and was a dedicated caregiver. She spent many years working for Kosciusko Community Hospital in the ER and later as floor supervisor. She retired in 2011 at age 80.

True to her giving nature, she was tireless as a mother, caring for her son Robert for many years, and devoted as a grandmother. She was generous and compassionate, serious, hardworking and driven. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and previously a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

Those who survive with memories to cherish include three sons: Mike (Carol) Svinarich, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Robert Svinarich, of Warsaw; and Tom (Beth) Svinarich, of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren: John Michael Svinarich, Logan Svinarich, Amy Svinarich, Beth Anderson, Kate Svinarich and Dami Sceiford; and four great-grandchildren: Noah, Emma, Jeremy and Madison. Also surviving are sister, Betty (Don) Emmert; and sister-in-law, Lori Svinarich. Those who preceded Katie in passing include her husband, John Svinarich; son, Richard Svinarich; and two siblings, Bill Evans and Helen Moroski.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 125 N. Harrison St., Warsaw, on Friday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. Friends may gather at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.

Titus Funeral Home, a Life Celebration provider, is entrusted with Katie’s arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic School, 135 N. Harrison St., Warsaw, IN 46580.
