According to Warsaw Community Schools Chief Academic Officer Dr. David Robertson, the lockout started at about 2:25 p.m. and ended about 3:03 p.m.
A lockout “means that teachers and students experienced ‘business as usual’ conditions but that no one was allowed in or out of the building. This precaution was taken to ensure student security and safety while authorities could respond to a domestic dispute that occurred near the building,” according to a news release.
Hoffert said the lockout was done to make sure students were safe and the child in question didn’t go with the wrong legal custodial parent.
Warsaw Police Department dealt with the situation between the parents, Hoffert said.
“Thanks to the rapid response of local authorities, the situation was resolved quickly,” the release stated.
There was an increased police presence at parent pickup.
“We would like to thank local authorities for their partnership and continued efforts to keep our schools safe,” the release said.
