Locals Boys Golf Teams Compete In Bob Turner Classic

LEESBURG – Four schools local to the Times-Union competed in the Bob Turner Classic boys golf tournament Monday at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.

Triton was fourth with a team score of 318. Beau Hepler led the Trojans with a 74, followed by Cole McKinney at 77. Chase Butler had an 80, Carter Kunz an 87 and Keegan Westafter was at 94.

Host Warsaw’s Black team placed fifth at 329. Cal Hoskins had 73 and Chase Byron posted an 80. Tucker Carlyle and Lewis Turley each shot 88, and Jack Yeager was at 91.

Manchester was at 342, good for sixth place. Owen Kruschwitz led the Squires with a 76, followed by his brother Harley at 77. Other Squire scores were Konrad Borgmann, 92; Klayton Hendrix, 97; and Mathis McLaughlin, 98.

Wawasee was seventh with a 351. The Warrior individual scores were Zach Leedy, 84; Brandon Tayagua, 88; Evan Dippon, 89; Caden Welty, 90; and Caleb Clevenger, 92.

Warsaw’s Orange team was eighth with a 375. Scores were Seth Hildebrand, 90;  Will Hall, 91; Ben Brander, 93; Jeremy Ryman, 101; and Mason Whitaker, 102.

Penn won with a score of 300. A pair of Fort Wayne schools were second and third; Bishop Dwenger at 306 and Canterbury at 313.

On Thursday, Wawasee will host Columbia City at South Shore Golf Club, Manchester plays at Peru and Triton will host Tippecanoe Valley and Bremen. Warsaw will play Saturday at the Lafayette Jeff Classic at Battleground Golf Club.



Vikings Beat Argos

AKRON – Host Tippecanoe Valley closed out its regular season in strong fashion, scoring in all six innings it came to bat and rolling to a 13-6 non-conference baseball win over Argos Monday night.

Layne Prater, Payton Mills, Tanner Trippiedi, Wes Melanson and Russ Paxton all had multiple-hit games. Ethan Yates with the winning pitcher for Valley.

The Vikings open play in the 3A Wawasee Sectional in Syracuse at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, taking on Fairfield.



Tigers Drop Baseball Finale To Blazers

The Warsaw Tigers lost the lead late in the game and couldn't recover in a 3-2 loss to Elkhart Central on Monday at Tiger Field in Warsaw’s regular season finale.

Warsaw got on the board in the first inning when Noah Burgh singled home Lukas Maier to go ahead 1-0. Elkhart Central would answer with a run in the top of the third inning, and then go ahead 2-1 with another run in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers would tie the game when Jacob Hutcherson singled to score Matt Shoemaker. The Blazers would push another run home in the top of the seventh inning to go ahead 3-2, and the Tigers could not answer.

Mason Reber started the game for Warsaw and threw four complete innings. He gave up one run, two hits, and struck out one. Drake Graham came in relief and threw three complete innings, giving up two runs on one hit and three strikeouts.

The Tigers were led offensively by Liam Patton (2-for-4), Burgh (2-for-3, RBI), and Hutcherson (1-for-1, RBI).

Warsaw (11-16) will now face Concord Thursday in the first round of the Sectional Tournament at Elkhart Memorial. First pitch is scheduled for 45 minutes after the conclusion of the 5 p.m. game between Central and Northridge.
