Manchester Wins Fourth Straight Girls Tennis Sectional Title

PERU – The Manchester Lady Squire tennis team successfully defended their sectional title on Saturday morning by defeating Maconaquah 5-0 in the finals of the Peru Sectional.

Only Kelsey Eichenauer at No. 1 singles needed three sets to win. She dropped her first set to Alice Miller before coming back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win.

Halle Briner and Eva Bazzoni each won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Anna Osborne and Halie Wampler won 6-0 , 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Rebekah Pyle and Alyssa Marvel won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Manchester moves to 13-4 on the year and advances to the Culver Academies Regional to play Plymouth, winner of the Bremen Sectional, at 5 p.m. Tuesday. On the opposite side of the bracket Warsaw takes on host Culver Academies, winners of the sectional it hosted, also at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The regional title match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday.



Trojans Win HNAC Tourney

NORTH JUDSON – Triton placed all five of its players in the top 10 to edge Winamac for the Hoosier North Athletic Conference boys golf tournament title Saturday at Chesapeake Run in North Judson. The Trojans’ score of 324 was four shots better than the runner-up Warriors.

Trojan Chase Butler (78) was second overall in the tourney, with Beau Hepler third with a 79, Carter Kuntz fourth at 83 ad Keegan Westafer eighth at 84. All four were named to the All-HNAC team. Cole McKinney was ninth with an 86 and was HNAC honorable mention.

Winamac’s Calvin Larkin was the medalist with a 75.

Triton is scheduled to tee it up today at the Bob Turner Classic at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.



Tigers 2nd, Warriors 4th In NLC Tournament

SYRACUSE –  Warsaw’s boys golf team took second place in the Northern Lakes Conference Championship at South Shore Golf Course in Syracuse Saturday with a team score of 335. Plymouth won with a 323, resulting in a shared NLC title after Warsaw swept the head-to-head match play earlier.

Wawasee finished fourth with a team score of 347.

Medalist of the tournament was Chapman Yoder of Plymouth with a 76. Warsaw was led by the trio of Cal Hoskins, Zach LaLonde and Chase Byron who shot 81, 82, and 82, respectively. Tucker Carlile shot a 90 and Seth Hildebrand a 105.

Warrior scores were Zach Leedy, 85; Dillon Drake, 87; Tyler Bosstick, 87, Brandon Tayagua, 88; and Evan Dippon, 92.

Warsaw’s Hoskins and Byron were named to the All-NLC team, and the Tigers’ Carlisle and LaLonde, as well as Wawasee’s Leedy, were honorable mention.

Both teams are scheduled to play in the Bob Turner Classic at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club today.



Warriors Roll At Lakeland

LAGRANGE – Wawasee scored nine runs in the second inning and seven more in the third, giving itself plenty of wiggle room in a 19-7, five-inning win at Lakeland High School Saturday. It was the regular-season finale for both teams.

The Lakers scored six times in the fourth inning, but still succumbed to the run-rule.

Levi Brown homered twice and drove in five runs for the Warriors. Kam Salazar homered, doubled twice, scored twice and had three RBI’s. Gabe Moore and Carter Woody also went deep for Wawasee, and Grant Brooks and Ethan Garza both had two-base hits.

The Warriors drew a bye in the 3A sectional its hosting, and will play the Angola-Lakeland winner in a semifinal game at 11 a.m. Saturday.



Viking Baseball Wins Twin Lakes Classic Title

MONTICELLO – Tippecanoe Valley’s baseball team won the Twin Lakes Classic tournament Saturday with a 9-8 win over Lebanon and a 7-4 victory over the host Indians.

Layne Prater got the start on the mound against Lebanon and went four innings, leaving with a 4-4 tie game going into the top of the fifth.

DJ Estep relieved Prater and got the win after throwing two innings and taking a 9-8 lead.

Closer Russ Paxton then took the mound in the top of the seventh to collect the save with two strike outs and giving up one hit.

Michael Shuster got the win on the mound after throwing five innings and handing it over again to Paxton for his second save of the day vs Twin Lakes.

Offensively the Vikings had 18 hits and 16 runs in two games.

The Vikings are scheduled to host Winamac in a non-conference game today in what would be the regular-season finale.



Squire SB?Blanks Tigers

NORTH MANCHESTER – Kindra Stetzel tossed a four-hit shutout with five walks and six strikeouts, helping Manchester softball to a 4-0 win over visiting Warsaw Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Stetzel also doubled, singled twice and scored a run in the Squires’ four-run fifth inning. Mackenzie Day had a double and a single, scoring a run and driving in two. Carsyn Howard had a double and Lydia Greer added two singles to the Squires’ 12-hit attack.

Katie Anderson singled and doubled for Warsaw.

The Tigers host a 4A Sectional and will take on Elkhart Central today.



Manchester Sweeps Twinbill From C. Noble

NORTH MANCHESTER – Trailing 8-5 after five innings of game one of a doubleheader, Manchester rallied for a 8-5 baseball win over Central Noble, then kept the momentum with a 17-7, six-inning win in game two Saturday.

Mason Meyer had four hits and drove in four runs in the opener. Grant Strobel had three hits and Kyle Shepherd two hits for the Squires.

Thane Creager was 4-for-5 in the second game, with Justin Self and Devin Marcum adding three hits each. Meyer and Strobel had two hits each in Manchester’s 16-hit game.

Thanks to drawing a bye, Manchester has a week off before taking on Whitko in the 2A Wabash Sectional semifinals Saturday.



Warsaw BB Splits A Pair In Tiger Tournament

Warsaw split a pair of baseball games in its own Tiger Tournament Saturday, getting an 8-7 walkoff win over DeKalb in he semifinals before falling 8-1 to Fort Wayne Snider in the title game.

Noah Burgh’s double was the game-winning hit for the Tigers in the first game. Lukas Meier reached on an error and Liam Patton singled to set the table in the seventh. Ian Glogovsky laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position, setting up the Burgh heroics.

Glogovsky, Burgh and Jacob Hutcherson had a pair of hits each for Warsaw in the title game.

The Tigers are scheduled to close out the regular season today with a home game against Elkhart Central.



Wildcats Split In Finale

OSSIAN – Visiting Whitko won game one 9-0 and lost game two 10-5 at Norwell in a softball doubleheader to close the regular season Saturday.

Ellie Snep tossed a three-hit shutout in game one with five strikeouts, in the opening game of a doubleheader, and visiting Whitko took advantage of five errors. Shi Bradley singled and homered, and Sarah Hewitt struck her first career home run for Whitko.

Game two featured a triple by Snep, a double by Elizabeth Miller and a pair of singles each from Emalee Duggins and Misha Brandenburg.

The Wildcats begin sectional play Tuesday, taking on Manchester at the 2A Oak Hill tournament.



Wildcats 12th In Tourney

PERU – Whitko’s boys golf team placed 12th at Saturday’s Peru Invitational.

Kyler Bryant led the Wildcats at 85, followed by Cade Bechtold, 99; Jonathan Strayer, 103;  Dale Reiff, 108 and Storm Baldridge, 134.

Next up for Whitko is a match with host West Noble at South Shore Golf Club in Syracuse on Thursday

Main Street Warsaw announced All is Bright, a month-long Downtown Christmas Celebration, sponsored by 1st Source Bank, will begin on Friday.
