AKRON – Carmel Manns, 90, of rural Akron, Indiana passed at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2019, at his residence.

He was born on May 25, 1928, in Carey, Ohio, to Mitchell and Gracie Barnett Manns.              

He was married on June 11, 1948, in Salyersville, Ky., to Opal Smith. She survives.

Carmel worked for General Tire of Wabash for 22 years. He also owned Manns & Sons Garage in Akron and retired from Da-Lite Screen of Warsaw. After retiring, he worked at Craig Welding of Mentone.

He was a member of Sweetwater Assembly of God of North Manchester.  He enjoyed hunting, horses and cattle on the farm. He was known as an ornery joker with family and friends. He also enjoyed southern gospel music.

He is survived by wife, Opal Manns of Akron; daughters Connie (and husband John) Malott of Akron and Vickie (and husband Rodney) Whitaker of Akron; sons Darrel Manns of Akron and Doug (and wife Joanna) Manns of Akron; grandchildren: Christopher, Joshua, Sarah, Matthew, Jennifer, Lori, Logan, Jessica, Wesley, Kiley and Teri; 33 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death his parents, Mitchell and Gracie Manns; brothers, Oscar and Bradie; infant sister, Chelsea; and sisters-in-law, Oma and Loretta.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeremy Jones presiding. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake.
