Warriors Edge RedHawks In Northern Lakes Conference Play

GOSHEN – Wawasee pushed across a run in the first inning, then another in the sixth, just enough to take a 2-1 Northern Lakes Conference softball win over host Goshen in a game played on the Goshen College campus Monday.

Bethany Flannery and Faith Swihart provided all the offense for the Warriors, each hitting solo home runs. Kiaundra Olson pitched a complete game, scattering six hits over seven innings, not allowing an earned run and striking out six while walking one.

Now 14-8 overall, Wawasee will host Concord in a TRC game Wednesday.



Two Wawasee Pitchers Combine For Shutout

SYRACUSE – Levi Brown and Jacob Krugman pitched around 10 Goshen hits, including nine singles, to get Wawasee to a 4-0 win over visiting Goshen in Northern Lakes Conference baseball Monday.

The Warriors had just seven hits, including a two-run triple by Kam Salazar. Gabe Moore scored twice, and Tony Garcia and Jacob Carson scored one run each, and Parker Young drove in two runs.

Wawasee takes an 11-9 record into a conference game at Concord Wednesday.



Warriors Girls Tennis Shuts Out Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY – Visiting Wawasee made quick work of Whitko, winning the non-conference girls tennis match 5-0 in the regular season finale for both teams.

Kendra Doerr downed Kayla Schipper 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Peyton Rookstool won 6-0, 6-1 over Mahkinsey Myers at No. 2 singles. Junior Elizabeth Kleopfer beat Katherine Ousley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Wawasee’s doubles teams needed just 25 games, one over the minimum, to sweep their matches. At No 1, Kaitlyn Graber and Molly Jones won 6-0, 6-0 over Jaycie Thomas and Kylie Fugett, and Abby Morehead and Tate Cowan won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1 over Bailey Wright and Abigail Metz.

The two teams will face off again at around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the Warsaw Sectional.



N. Miami Wins Walkoff Over Tippecanoe Valley

DENVER, Ind. – ?North Miami scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to gain a 10-9 Three Rivers Conference baseball win over visiting Tippecanoe Valley Monday.

Wes Melanson doubled, drove in a run and scored twice for the Vikings. Russ Paxton had a double, a single two RBI’s and scored once, and Ethan Yates doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Valley travels to South Whitley for a conference game with Whitko today.



Valley Drops Regular-Season Tennis Finale

AKRON – Host Tippecanoe Valley fell 3-2 to Northfield in the Three Rivers Conference and regular-season girls tennis finale for both teams.

The Vikings picked up their points in doubles. Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley extended their winning streak to 10, with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 win over Erin Whetstone and Lindsey Carter. Hodge/Bradley concluded their regular season by going undefeated in conference play (8-0) while finishing 15-1 overall.

Haley Baker and Kaitlin Neese won 6-1, 6-1 and completed their regular season at 11-5. Valley doubles finished a combined 27-5.

The loss dropped Valley to 3-5 in the conference and 8-8 overall. The Vikings open play in the Warsaw Sectional semifinals, taking on Columbia City at 5 p.m. Thursday.



Schedules Rearranged

Because of rain from Sunday night into Monday, a number of high school sports schedules have been rearranged for this week. Start times remain unchanged.

Warsaw

The Tigers’ Northern Lakes Conference baseball game at Concord was postponed until today. As a result, today’s scheduled non-conference home game with Mishawaka has been canceled.

Warsaw’s conference softball home game with Concord was also moved to today. The non-conference home game with Elkhart Central this afternoon was canceled.

Triton

The Trojans’ Hoosier North Athletic Conference home game with Knox has been moved to Saturday, when a non-conference doubleheader with Argos was scheduled. Now, the Trojans will play single games with Knox and Argos on Saturday.

Manchester

The Squire softball and baseball teams were to play Three Rivers Conference games with Wabash on Monday. Both contests were moved to today.

Whitko

The Wildcats’ TRC softball home game with Maconaquah was moved to Thursday.   Senior night activities will be before the Tippecanoe Valley game on Wednesday.

Whitko’s baseball game with Maconaquah will be played today.

Tippecanoe Valley

The Vikings’ TRC softball game at North Miami was moved from Monday to today.

Wawasee

Because Fairfield had to cancel its game today at Wawasee to make up a game in its conference, the Warriors will play Carroll at around 5:30 p.m. today instead.
