Derek Sadler of McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel has organized a campaign for Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan to raise $800 – the amount it takes to produce one wig for a child. The funeral chapel kicked off the campaign with a $100 donation, and $895 has been raised so far.
“I am overwhelmed with the generosity and donations that have been raised thus far for this charitable endeavor,” Sadler said. “This charity is near and dear to my heart for all those children struggling with life-threatening illnesses. Helping them to feel a little more secure and confident in their appearance is such a beautiful cause.”
Maggie's Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center and Salon is a nonprofit organization that provides wigs and support services at no charge to children and young adults experiencing hair loss due to cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns and other disorders. Wig recipients range from ages 3 to 18 and are located throughout Michigan.
Since 2003, Maggie's Wigs has changed the lives of over 4,500 children.
Every wig provided is custom-fitted, age-appropriate, and individually cut and styled as requested by a child or teen to help them feel comfortable and confident.
Sadler did more than open his wallet – he made a hair donation to Maggie’s Wigs, with the help of local stylist Kelly Warner.
The charity can accept hair donations as short as 7 inches, though donations of 10 inches or more are preferred. It takes 10 to 14 hair donations to create one wig for a child.
Warner said she will give a free haircut to anyone who wants to donate their hair to Maggie’s Wigs. Find her on Facebook, or email [email protected].
Donations of funds will be accepted through June 1; see Derek Sadler’s Facebook page or that of McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel.
