Wawasee Walks Off With Win Over Concord In NLC?Action

SYRACUSE – Wawasee pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-3 Northern Lakes Conference baseball win over visiting Concord Saturday.

Gabe Moore had a double and single and scored twice for the Warriors. Tony Garcia scored the other two runs, and Kameron Salazar had a pair of singles in the winning cause.

Salazar went six innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. Jacob Krugman got the win on the mound, having worked a clean top of the seventh inning.

In the junior varsity game, Jonas Baley had a double, single and a stolen base and scored twice in Wawasee’s 11-4 victory over the Minutemen.

Wawasee will host NorthWood for a conference game today.



Tigers Trip Chargers

ELKHART – Warsaw baseball used a six-run sixth inning to secure an 8-3 win at Elkhart Memorial in Northern Lakes Conference play Saturday.

Liam Patton had a three-run homer in the Tigers’ winning rally. Noah Burgh had a two-run single and Ian Glogovsky had an RBI double. Joey Springer, Glogovsky, Patton and Burgh each had at least two hits in the game.

Glogovsky got the win with four innings pitched, allowing one earned run and three hits while striking out four.

In the junior varsity game, Warsaw had a six-run second inning and went on to a 7-3 win over Memorial at Warsaw.

Now 6-11, Warsaw will host Plymouth in an NLC game today.



Warriors Third At Concord

ELKHART – Wawasee’s boys golf team finished third, behind South Bend St. Joseph and NorthWood, at the Concord Invitational Saturday at Bent Oak Golf Club.

Dillon Drake led the Warriors with an 85, followed by Zach Leedy and Tyler Bosstick, each shooting 89. Victor Tayagua had a 91 and Evan Dippon a 99 for Wawasee.

The Warriors will play Concord and host Elkhart Memorial at Christiana Creek Golf Club on Tuesday. The match was originally scheduled to be played at Bent Oak.



Squires 3rd, Whitko 6th At Northfield Invitational

WABASH – Manchester placed third with a 343 and Whitko was sixth at 355 in the Northfield Invitational Saturday. Peru won at 336 and Maconaquah was second at 339.

The Squires’ Owen Kruschwitz was the medalist with a one-over par score of 72, which included an eagle 3 on No.  12 at Honeywell Golf Club. Owen’s brother Harley tied for third at 75. Rounding out Manchester’s scores for the day was junior Klayton Hendrix with 94, while seniors Konrad Borgmann and Mathias McLaughlin both shot 102. 

Cade Bechtold had an 82 for the Wildcats, with Kylar Bryant at 86, Dale Reiff at 93 and Jonathan Strayer at 94. Storm Baldridge had to withdraw due to illness.

Cade Brouyette from Tippecanoe Valley tied for fifth at 79. No other information on the Viking team was available at press time.

Manchester will next play Southwood and host Rochester on Wednesday. Valley will host Whitko today.



Triton 5th At Lafayette Jeff

LAFAYETTE – Triton’s boys golf team finished fifth at the Lafayette Jefferson Boosters tournament Saturday at Coyote Crossing Golf Club.

Beau Hepler had a 77 for the Trojans, with Cole McKinney at 84, Chase Butler and Keegan Westafer at 85, and John Gardner at 92.

The Trojans will compete at the Uebele Invitational Friday in LaPorte.



Concord Run-Rules Wawasee

DUNLAP – Concord’s sofball team scored three runs in the third inning, then four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end an 11-1 rout of Wawasee in Northern Lakes Conference play Saturday morning.

Graceanne Kerlin had two singles and Olivia Stuck doubled for the Warriors.



Chargers Walkoff Tigers

ELKHART – Elkhart Memorial scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 10-9 softball win over Warsaw in a Northern Lakes Conference game Saturday morning.

The Tigers trailed by seven runs before coming back to forge a tie.  Warsaw scored in the fourth inning  on singles by Hailey Locke and  Carmen Albertson and a grand slam by Lindsey Bradley. Another run scored on a double by Courtney Chookie in the sixth.



Warriors Hold Tigers Back

ELKHART – In the second game of an odd softball doubleheader for both teams Saturday, Wawasee scored six runs in the first three innings, then held off Warsaw for a 6-5 Northern Lakes Conference win at Elkhart Memorial.

The twisted scheduled was necessary due to rain and subsequent wet grounds last week. Both teams were in Elkhart County for morning games.

Faith Swihart, Graceanne Kerlin and Delaney Hare had two hits each for Wawasee.  Isabelle Dittmar, Lindsey Bradley and Hailey Locke all had multiple hits for Warsaw.

Wawasee will face NorthWood in Nappanee and Warsaw will host Plymouth today.



Squires Split In Tourney

GARRETT – Mamchester’s softball team split a pair of games in the Garrett Invitational Saturday, falling 6-0 to South Adams before winning the consolation game 7-1 over New Haven.

The Squires recovered from a four-hit performance in the first game to pound out 13 hits against New Haven. Carsyn Howard doubled twice, and Mackenzie Day doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Mancester will play a Three Rivers Conference game at Northfield today.
