Manchester Girls Win County Track Title, Boys 2nd

NORTH MANCHESTER – It took an extra couple of days thanks to the weather, but the Manchester girls won the Wabash County track meet Thursday with 91 points to Wabash’s 58, Southwood’s 56 and Northfield’s 29 points.

Wabash took the boys title with 92 points, with Manchester at 62, one better than Southwood. Northfield was fourth with 28 points.

Top performers for the Squire ladies were freshman Olivia Auler and sophomore Kailea Kerr, who finished 1-2 in the 100. Auler was second in the 200 as well. Katie Barker won the 100 hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles. Gabby Brewer was a double winner in the high jump and long jump.

Jaclyn Webb was second in the 1,600 and Maddy Evans was the runner-up in the 3,200. McKenna Rickert was third in the 400, as was Kiersten Eakright in the shot put and Sarah Pegg in the discus. Manchester also won all three relay events.

Isaiah Davis, the Times-Union Athlete of the Week, was a double winner for the Squire boys. He won the long jump and the high jump.

Other top performers for Manchester included Gavin Ream winning the discus and taking second in the shot put.

Third-place finishers were freshman A.J. Fortman in the 200, Tyler Andritsch in the 400, Sam Reichenbach in the 800 and Dom Lincoln in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Manchester won the 4x100 relay as well.

Next up for the teams is the Three Rivers Conference meet in Marion Tuesday.



Tigers Sweep Eagles

CULVER – Warsaw girls tennis won four matches in straight sets, and a fifth was won in a tiebreaker after the match had been decided in a Tiger 5-0, non-conference win at Culver Academies Thursday.

At No. 1 singles, Alyssa Zellers won 6-3, 6-3 over Lila Rosique. Taylor Shoaf won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-2 over Anna Mareno and Rachel Boyle won 6-3, 6-1 over Val Hsu at No. 3 singles.

Rachel Yeager and Reagan Merchant came from behind, then needed a tiebreaker played in lieu of a third set to beat Margaret Davidson and Ava Kite 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles duo of Amy Herendeen and Maddie Ray played a close first set before rolling in the second to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win over  Anaia Johnson and Anna Paola Mendoza.

In junior varsity play, Anastasia Kalikova won in singles, as did the doubles teams of Marie Frazzetta and Addison Marshall, Mikayla Roller and Annie Burnett and Audrey Turley and Jaya Panicker.

The Tigers have a Northern Lakes Conference match at Goshen Monday.



Warriors Edge Jimmies

ELKHART – Wawasee boys golf earned a 175-179 win over Jimtown in a non-conference match Thursday.

Evan Dippon shot a 39 to lead the Warriors. Other scores were Zach Leedy, 43; Dillon Drake, 45; Jared Krugman, 45; Victor Tayagua, 48; and Caden?Welty, 49.

Next up for Wawasee (7-2) is the Concord Invitational at Bend Oak Golf Club in Elkhart Saturday.



Panthers Down Warriors

Molly Jones and Kaitlin Graber won at No. 1 doubles for Wawasee, 6-2, 6-1 over NorthWood’s Paige Henschen and Lauren Mikel, but the Panthers claimed a 4-1 Northern Lakes Conference girls tennis win Thursday at the Eastlake Tennis and Fitness Center in Warsaw.

Wawasee (6-4, 1-4 NLC) is right back at it today, with a conference match at Elkhart Memorial, weather permitting.

The following high school sporting events in the Times-Union coverage area, scheduled for Thursday, were either canceled or postponed due to weather or poor conditions as a result of this week’s precipitation:

• Whitko at Wabash, moved to 5 p.m. Friday. Whitko’s game at Bellmont on Friday has been canceled.

• Manchester at Tippecanoe Valley, originally scheduled for Monday, now 5 p.m. Friday. Valley’s game at Argos on Friday has been canceled.

• Tuesday’s Elkhart Memorial at Warsaw game was rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.
