Winona Literary Club

The Winona Literary Club met March 20 at the Robin Hood Community Center with 25 members and one guest present.

The entertainment was the Grace Village Chime Choir with Ethel Anderson conducting. The choir played several numbers, each composed by a different country's author.

Rose Marie Henning gave a book and author review of Michael Phillips writings, with a Scottish theme.

The business meeting consisted of minutes, financial report and information on the spring luncheon in May. Reservations will be made at the April 17 meeting.

Refreshments were served by Norma Roose and Marcia South.



Wednesday Night Bridge

The Wednesday Night Bridge group reports results from the last two weeks.

There were four tables on March 20. Winners were John Wagley, John Stewart, Dorothy Herring, Grant Magner and Virginia Horn.

There were also four tables on March 27. Winners were Magner, Bob Mayer, Judy Stewart, Peggy Wilson and Kathy Clary.

Janet and John Wagley were hostess and host for both meetings.

Interested bridge players are welcome to the weekly meetings. Call Janet Wagley at 574-268-1330 for more information.



Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter DAR

Agnes Pruyn Chapman chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, met Tuesday with eight members and three guests present.

Regent Kathleen Gawthrop opened the meeting with prayer and the opening ritual.  Paulene Holderman read the minutes of the February meeting and also gave the national defense report. Janice Cox gave the treasurer's report.   

Gawthrop read a letter from Shepherd’s House thanking the group for food and clothing.  Shepherd's House is a rehab facility for veterans in Fort Wayne.     

New unused Christmas cards were sent to the veterans home in Marion for the veterans’ use.

The chapter sponsors an American history contest each year for Kosciusko County area students in grades 5-8. This year's winner, fifth-grader Alexia Daniels from Harrison School, read her essay at the meeting. Alexia’s essay has been chosen as one of 13 state finalists.

The chapter also sponsors an essay contest for seniors chosen as good citizens at their respective high school. The county  winner, Shayleigh Shriver from Tippecanoe Valley, read her essay, which is at the state for further judging.

Gawthrop gave a brief history of DAR in Indiana. Agnes Pruyn Chapman chapter was organized in Warsaw in December 1907. The charter was granted in December 1908. Flora Ristine Frazier was the organizing regent.

The next meeting is April 23 at Richards Restaurant. The Warsaw Community High School JROTC outstanding female cadet will be honored.



Four Seasons Ladies Bridge

WINONA LAKE – The Four Seasons Ladies Bridge group met Wednesday at Grace Village.

Winners were Barb Calhan, Beth Huffer, Maxine Harris and Sondra Dicken.

Nanette Newland was hostess.



Grace Thursday Bridge

Grace Thursday Bridge met this week with Nancy Dalton as hostess.

Winners were Dalton, Bob Mayer and June Staley.



N. Webster Community Center SPEC

NORTH WEBSTER – Bridge results this week at the Senior Prime Enrichment Center in North Webster:

On Thursday, Jerry Hetrick was first and Mike Wyrick was second.

No bridge was played Tuesday.
