Jonathan Dale Kuta, 41, of 900 Anchorage Road, lot 101, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:21 p.m. Friday for home improvement fraud with a bond of $3,000 surety and $8,000 cash.
Court documents filed March 13 list his address as 2605 E. Center St., Warsaw, and the charges against him as home improvement fraud, a level 5 felony, and theft, a level 6 felony.
On Feb. 26, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy Justin Smith spoke with a 60-year-old woman in reference to a home improvement fraud. She said that on Feb. 10, she entered into a home improvement contract with Kuta, doing business as Grip Tight Roofing, for $22,000.
The contract called for an addition to the residence measuring 36 feet by 28 feet. The payments were to be paid in three parts, with $8,000 due at the start of the job, second payment of $8,000 due when the addition is framed and the third to be paid at the finish. The woman said Kuta gave her a materials list and she purchased the material and had them at her home.
The woman said that on Feb. 20, she wrote Kuta a check for $8,000. He came to the residence on Feb. 21 and removed a bush and then left. He hasn’t been back since and she was unable to contact him.
On Feb. 28, she contacted Kuta’s brother, Michael Kuta, who offered to make it right and finish the project and not get paid until the second installment. On March 4, the woman told Smith that Michael Kuta said he was not willing to honor Jonathan Kuta’s commitment. She said Michael said Jonathan did this before by using his company’s name, Grip Tight Roofing.
