A Warsaw man is facing identity deception and forgery charges after allegedly using a Texas man’s name and information to get a job and driver’s license in Kosciusko County.

Cristoval Gauna Almaguer, 38, of 1692 E. CR 200N, #61, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:05 p.m. Friday on a preliminary charge of forgery with a bond of $10,250.

Court documents filed Friday list the charges against him as identity deception, a Class D felony; identity deception, a level 6 felony; and forgery, a Class C forgery.

On Sept. 13, 2005, a man filed a police report with Falfurrias Police Department in Texas that his identity had been stolen.

On Feb. 21, 2019, the victim contacted the Indiana State Police advising that he applied for a new job at a prison facility and while the prison facility was performing his background check, they discovered the victim was arrested in Kosciusko County for disorderly conduct two times.

The victim had never been arrested in Kosciusko County, and whoever was using his name and identifying information was doing so without his permission or consent.

On Feb. 21, ISP trooper Ryan McNamara determined through the Kosciusko County Jail booking records that the unknown person – later determined to be Almaguer – using the victim’s information had been arrested on March 20, 2014, and was employed by Maple Leaf Farms Inc.

McNamara obtained the jail booking for March 20, 2014, of Almaguer and found where he signed and provided the false name and information of the victim.

McNamara then obtained the employment records of Almaguer from Maple Leaf Farms. He also learned that on March 10, 2008, Almaguer filled out the name and identifying information of the victim on the job application, state and federal tax withholding forms and 19 employment eligibility forms. McNamara verified with Maple Leaf that Almaguer – using the victim’s name – was still employed there.

McNamara learned Almaguera had obtained an Indiana driver’s license using the victim’s name and information.
