“By Their Hand – Finding Hidden Gems” will open Tuesday in the Brennan Room at Rua. A public artist reception is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. March 22.
Painter and former art professor Timothy Young, who works with the Redbird Studio as a mentor, technical adviser and curator, has pulled together a collection of “hidden gems” that he discovered in the files at the studio.
“What I was seeing as I viewed the paintings was a step back in time,” says Young, referring to movements as fauvism, surrealism, expressionism and lyrical abstraction. “With this exhibit, you will encounter a past art history that is being reforged with a new sense of exploration and investigation.”
Redbird Studio is one of many services provided by Cardinal Services, whose mission is to assist and advocate for people with disabilities. The studio provides an opportunity for creativity in the visual arts for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and allows them to engage in the creative process in their own expressive manner.
The Gallery at Rua is open to the public during regular Rua hours: 5 p.m. to close Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Rua is at 108 E. Market St. in downtown Warsaw.
“By Their Hands – Finding Hidden Gems” will run through May 19. Young will be present at the reception on March 22. Appetizers will be provided, and a cash bar will be available. All works will be for sale.
The Gallery at Rua offers exhibits featuring artists from northern Indiana, the Midwest and beyond.
