Lady Lancers Top UNOH On Softball Diamond

CLERMONT, Fla. – Grace College’s softball team picked up a marquee win on Friday with a 6-4 victory over Northwestern Ohio.

The Lady Lancers (4-6) upset the Racers, who won 30 games last year and qualified for the NAIA National Championships.

Grace beat UNOH in the morning game with a late burst of runs. The Lady Lancers jumped ahead early with a three-run first inning.

The Racers (8-3) scored two runs of their own in the top of the second, and the score remained 3-2 in Grace’s favor for the next few innings.

In the top of the fifth, UNOH pulled ahead 4-3 with a pair of runs. But Grace countered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

The bases were loaded with one out in the inning when Hannah Harless stepped up for a pinch-hit single to score two runs.

Sam Heim took care of the rest from the mound. Heim threw a complete game and kept the Racers off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh. Heim allowed four runs on eight hits to earn the victory.

Jessica Kaurich hit 2 for 3 with two runs and a double, Brittney Young was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Andrea Castillo was 2 for 4 with a run.

In the second game of the day, Grace lost 6-4 to Trinity Christian. Grace scored its runs early while Trinity scored late.

The Lady Lancers scored all four of their runs in the first four innings. The Trolls tacked on three runs in the top of the fourth, and Trinity took the lead for good with three more runs across the last two stanzas.

Taylor Asher was 3 for 3 with a run scored, and Natalie Klingberg was 2 for 2.

Young batted 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and Heim finished 3 for 4 with two runs and a stolen base.

The Lady Lancers will end their trip to Florida with a pair of games today. Grace will take on Lawrence Tech and IU South Bend.
