Roundup: Trojans, Squires Advance To Sectional Finals

BOURBON – Led by senior Tye Orsund, the Triton Trojans beat South Central 45-29 Friday and advanced to tonight’s Class 1A Sectional 51 boys basketball final against No. 7 Argos.

Orsund finished with team-highs of 14 points and seven rebounds, while classmate Beau Hepler chipped in with nine points, and senior Lucas Richman and freshmen Tyson Yates and Ashton Oviedo scored six points each for the tournament hosts.

Triton, now 10-14 on the season, will meet county rival Argos in tonight’s final. The Dragons (20-4) cruised to a 78-28 win over Oregon-Davis in Friday’s other semifinal. Argos has won nine straight games and 15 of its last 16.

The Trojans led South Central 12-4 after one quarter of play and 19-11 at halftime.

Triton stretched the game in its favor by outscoring the Satellites 15-6 in the third quarter.

Brendan Carr scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds for South Central, and Trent Hudspeth finished with nine points.

Squires Cruise To Win Over Kings

CONVERSE – Eleven players scored, with seven of them scoring at least eight points, as the Manchester Squires cruised to a 90-58 win over the Lewis Cass Kings Friday in a Class 2A Sectional 37 semifinal at Oak Hill High School.

Weston Hamby and Thane Creager scored 13 points each, Logan Parrett tallied a career-high 12 points, and Max Carter and Kam Lester finished in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

Austin Underwood scored a career-high nine points and Brayden Casper tallied eight points for the Squires, who are now 14-10 on the season.

The last time Manchester scored at least 90 points was against Wabash in 1999.

The Squires will meet Wabash in tonight’s 7:30 p.m. sectional final.

Wabash beat Oak Hill 75-44 in Friday’s other semifinal, improving to 20-4 on the season.
